1 Corinthians 8

1ConcerningΠερὶnowδὲthe thingsτῶνsacrificed to idolsεἰδωλοθύτων,we knowοἴδαμενindeedὅτιallπάντεςknowledgeγνῶσινwe haveἔχομεν.ἡKnowledgeγνῶσιςpuffs upφυσιοῖ,ἡbutδὲloveἀγάπηbuilds upοἰκοδομεῖ.

2Ifεἴanyoneτιςthinksδοκεῖto have knownἐγνωκέναιanythingτι,not yetοὔπωdoes he knowἔγνωasκαθὼςit is necessaryδεῖto knowγνῶναι·

3IfεἰhoweverδέanyoneτιςlovesἀγαπᾷτὸνGodθεόν,heοὗτοςis knownἔγνωσταιbyὑπ’Himαὐτοῦ.

4ConcerningΠερὶtheτῆςeatingβρώσεωςthereforeοὖνof theτῶνthings sacrificed to idolsεἰδωλοθύτωνwe knowοἴδαμενthatὅτιnothingοὐδὲνan idolεἴδωλον[is] inἐν[the] worldκόσμῳ,andκαὶthat [there is]ὅτιnoοὐδεὶςGodθεὸςifεἰnotμὴoneεἷς.

5Evenκαὶtrulyγὰρif indeedεἴπερthere areεἰσὶν[those] calledλεγόμενοιgodsθεοὶwhetherεἴτεinἐνheavenοὐρανῷorεἴτεonἐπὶearthγῆς,asὥσπερthere areεἰσὶνgodsθεοὶmanyπολλοὶandκαὶlordsκύριοιmanyπολλοί,

6yetἀλλ’to usἡμῖν[there is] oneεἷςGodθεὸςtheὁFatherπατήρ,ofἐξwhom [are]οὗthe thingsτὰallπάνταandκαὶweἡμεῖςforεἰςHimαὐτόν,andκαὶoneεἷςLordκύριοςJesusἸησοῦςChristΧριστός,byδι’whom [are]οὗthe thingsτὰallπάνταandκαὶweἡμεῖςthroughδι’Himαὐτοῦ.

7ButἈλλ’notοὐκinἐνall [is]πᾶσινthisἡknowledgeγνῶσις·Someτινὲςnowδὲτῇby habitσυνηθείᾳuntilἕωςnowἄρτιof theτοῦidolεἰδώλουas ofὡςa thing sacrificed to an idolεἰδωλόθυτονeatἐσθίουσιν,andκαὶtheἡconscienceσυνείδησιςof themαὐτῶνweakἀσθενὴςbeingοὖσαit is defiledμολύνεται.

8Foodβρῶμαhoweverδὲusἡμᾶςnotοὐwill commendπαραστήσειtoτῷGodθεῷ·neitherοὔτεforγὰρifἐὰνwe should eatφάγωμεν,have we an advantageπερισσεύομεν,norοὔτεifἐὰνnotμὴwe should eatφάγωμεν,do we come shortὑστερούμεθα.

9Be carefulβλέπετεhoweverδὲlestμήsomehowπωςtheἡrightἐξουσίαof youὑμῶνthisαὕτηan occasion of stumblingπρόσκομμαbecomesγένηταιto thoseτοῖςbeing weakἀσθενέσιν.

10Ifἐὰνforγάρanyoneτιςseesἴδῃyouσὲτὸνhavingἔχονταknowledgeγνῶσινinἐνan idol’s templeεἰδωλείῳeatingκατακείμενον,notοὐχὶtheἡconscienceσυνείδησιςof himαὐτοῦweakἀσθενοῦςbeingὄντοςwill be built upοἰκοδομηθήσεταιso asεἰςtheτὸthingsτὰsacrificed to idolsεἰδωλόθυταto eatἐσθίειν;

11Is destroyedἀπόλλυταιforγὰρthe [one]ὁbeing weakἀσθενῶνthroughἐντῇyourσῇknowledgeγνώσει,theὁbrotherἀδελφὸςforδι’whomὃνChristΧριστὸςdiedἀπέθανεν.

12Thusοὕτωςthenδὲsinningἁμαρτάνοντεςagainstεἰςtheτοὺςbrothersἀδελφοὺςandκαὶwoundingτύπτοντεςtheirαὐτῶντὴνconscienceσυνείδησινbeing weakἀσθενοῦσανagainstεἰςChristΧριστὸνyou sinἁμαρτάνετε.

13Thereforeδιόπερifεἰfoodβρῶμαsnaresσκανδαλίζειtheτὸνbrotherἀδελφόνof meμου,neverοὐnotμὴshall I eatφάγωmeatκρέαtoεἰςtheτὸνageαἰῶνα,so thatἵναnotμὴtheτὸνbrotherἀδελφόνof meμουI might snareσκανδαλίσω.
