1 Thessalonians 5
1ConcerningΠερὶnowδὲtheτῶνtimesχρόνωνandκαὶtheτῶνseasonsκαιρῶν,brothersἀδελφοί,noοὐneedχρείανyou haveἔχετεto youὑμῖνto be writtenγράφεσθαι,
2Yourselvesαὐτοὶforγὰρfullyἀκριβῶςyou knowοἴδατεthatὅτι[the] dayἡμέραof [the] Lordκυρίουasὡςa thiefκλέπτηςbyἐνnightνυκτὶin this mannerοὕτωςcomesἔρχεται.
3For whenὅτανthey might sayλέγωσιν·PeaceΕἰρήνηandκαὶsecurityἀσφάλεια,thenτότεsuddenlyαἰφνίδιοςupon themαὐτοῖςcomesἐφίσταταιdestructionὄλεθροςasὥσπερtheἡlabor painsὠδὶνto herτῇinἐνwombγαστρὶhavingἐχούσῃ,andκαὶnoοὐnotμὴshall they escapeἐκφύγωσιν.
4Youὑμεῖςhoweverδέ,brothersἀδελφοί,notοὐκareἐστὲinἐνdarknessσκότει,thatἵναtheἡdayἡμέραyouὑμᾶςlikeὡςa thiefκλέπτηςshould overtakeκαταλάβῃ,
5Allπάντεςforγὰρyouὑμεῖςsonsυἱοὶof lightφωτόςareἐστεandκαὶsonsυἱοὶof dayἡμέρας.Notοὐκwe areἐσμὲνof nightνυκτὸςnorοὐδὲof darknessσκότους·
6Soἄραthenοὖνnotμὴwe should sleepκαθεύδωμενasὡςtheοἱothersλοιποί,butἀλλὰwe should watchγρηγορῶμενandκαὶwe should be soberνήφωμεν.
7Thoseοἱforγὰρsleepingκαθεύδοντεςby nightνυκτὸςsleepκαθεύδουσιν,andκαὶthoseοἱbecoming drunkμεθυσκόμενοιby nightνυκτὸςget drunkμεθύουσιν·
8Weἡμεῖςhoweverδὲof [the] dayἡμέραςbeingὄντεςshould be soberνήφωμεν,having put onἐνδυσάμενοι[the] breastplateθώρακαof faithπίστεωςandκαὶloveἀγάπηςandκαὶ[the] helmetπερικεφαλαίαν[the] hopeἐλπίδαof salvationσωτηρίας·
9becauseὅτιnotοὐκhas destinedἔθετοusἡμᾶςὁGodθεὸςforεἰςwrathὀργὴνbutἀλλὰforεἰςobtainingπεριποίησινsalvationσωτηρίαςthroughδιὰtheτοῦLordκυρίουof usἡμῶνJesusἸησοῦChristΧριστοῦ,
10the [One]τοῦhaving diedἀποθανόντοςforπερὶusἡμῶνso thatἵναwhetherεἴτεwe might watchγρηγορῶμενorεἴτεwe might sleepκαθεύδωμενtogetherἅμαwithσὺνHimαὐτῷwe may liveζήσωμεν.
11Thereforeδιὸencourageπαρακαλεῖτεone anotherἀλλήλουςandκαὶbuild upοἰκοδομεῖτεoneεἷςτὸνanotherἕνα,just asκαθὼςalsoκαὶyou are doingποιεῖτε.
12We imploreἘρωτῶμενhoweverδὲyouὑμᾶς,brothersἀδελφοί,to appreciateεἰδέναιthoseτοὺςtoilingκοπιῶνταςamongἐνyouὑμῖνandκαὶtaking the leadπροϊσταμένουςover youὑμῶνinἐν[the] Lordκυρίῳandκαὶadmonishingνουθετοῦνταςyouὑμᾶς,
13andκαὶto esteemἡγεῖσθαιthemαὐτοὺςvery highlyὑπερεκπερισσοῦinἐνloveἀγάπῃbecause ofδιὰtheτὸworkἔργονof themαὐτῶν.Be at peaceεἰρηνεύετεamongἐνyourselvesἑαυτοῖς.
14We exhortπαρακαλοῦμενnowδὲyouὑμᾶς,brothersἀδελφοί,to admonishνουθετεῖτεtheτοὺςunrulyἀτάκτους,encourageπαραμυθεῖσθεtheτοὺςfaintheartedὀλιγοψύχους,helpἀντέχεσθεtheτῶνweakἀσθενῶν,be patientμακροθυμεῖτεtowardπρὸςallπάντας.
15See thatὁρᾶτεnoμήoneτιςevilκακὸνforἀντὶevilκακοῦto anyoneτινιhas repaidἀποδῷ,butἀλλὰalwaysπάντοτεtheτὸgoodἀγαθὸνpursueδιώκετεtowardεἰςone anotherἀλλήλουςandκαὶtowardεἰςallπάντας.
16Alwaysπάντοτεrejoiceχαίρετε,
17Unceasinglyἀδιαλείπτωςprayπροσεύχεσθε,
18Inἐνeverythingπαντὶgive thanksεὐχαριστεῖτε·thisτοῦτοforγὰρ[is the] willθέλημαof GodθεοῦinἐνChristΧριστῷJesusἸησοῦtowardεἰςyouὑμᾶς.
19TheτὸSpiritπνεῦμαnotμὴdo quenchσβέννυτε,
20Propheciesπροφητείαςnotμὴdo despiseἐξουθενεῖτε·
21All thingsπάνταhoweverδὲtestδοκιμάζετε,To theτὸgoodκαλὸνhold fastκατέχετε,
22Fromἀπὸeveryπαντὸςformεἴδουςof evilπονηροῦabstainἀπέχεσθε.
23HimselfΑὐτὸςnowδὲtheὁGodθεὸςτῆςof peaceεἰρήνηςmay sanctifyἁγιάσαιyouὑμᾶςcompletelyὁλοτελεῖς,andκαὶentirelyὁλόκληρονyourὑμῶντὸspiritπνεῦμαandκαὶἡsoulψυχὴandκαὶτὸbodyσῶμαblamelessἀμέμπτωςatἐνtheτῇcomingπαρουσίᾳof theτοῦLordκυρίουof usἡμῶνJesusἸησοῦChristΧριστοῦmay be preservedτηρηθείη.
24[Is] faithfulπιστὸςthe [One]ὁcallingκαλῶνyouὑμᾶς,whoὃςalsoκαὶwill do [it]ποιήσει.
25BrothersἈδελφοί,prayπροσεύχεσθεforπερὶusἡμῶν.
26Greetἀσπάσασθεtheτοὺςbrothersἀδελφοὺςallπάνταςwithἐνa kissφιλήματιholyἁγίῳ.
27I adjureἐνορκίζωyouὑμᾶς[by] theτὸνLordκύριονto be readἀναγνωσθῆναι[this]τὴνletterἐπιστολὴνto allπᾶσινtheτοῖςbrothersἀδελφοῖς.
28Theἡgraceχάριςof theτοῦLordκυρίουof usἡμῶνJesusἸησοῦChristΧριστοῦ[be] withμεθ’youὑμῶν.
