Acts 28
1AndΚαὶhaving been savedδιασωθέντεςthenτότεwe found outἐπέγνωμενthatὅτιMaltaΜελίτηtheἡislandνῆσοςis calledκαλεῖται.
2οἵAndτεthe nativesβάρβαροιwere showingπαρεῖχονnot [just]οὐtheτὴνordinaryτυχοῦσανkindnessφιλανθρωπίανto usἡμῖν,Having kindledἅψαντεςforγὰρa fireπυρὰνthey receivedπροσελάβοντοallπάνταςof usἡμᾶςbecause ofδιὰtheτὸνrainὑετὸντὸνcoming onἐφεστῶταandκαὶbecauseδιὰof theτὸcoldψῦχος.
3Having gatheredσυστρέψαντοςnowδὲτοῦPaulΠαύλουof sticksφρυγάνωνaτιquantityπλῆθοςandκαὶhaving laid [them]ἐπιθέντοςonἐπὶtheτὴνfireπυράν,a viperἔχιδναout fromἀπὸtheτῆςheatθέρμηςhaving comeἐξελθοῦσαfastenedκαθῆψεon theτῆςhandχειρὸςof himαὐτοῦ.
4Whenὡςthenδὲsawεἶδονtheοἱnativesβάρβαροιhangingκρεμάμενονtheτὸbeastθηρίονfromἐκtheτῆςhandχειρὸςof himαὐτοῦ,toπρὸςone anotherἀλλήλουςthey began to sayἔλεγον·By all meansΠάντωςa murdererφονεύςisἐστινtheὁmanἄνθρωποςthisοὗτοςwhomὃνhaving been savedδιασωθένταfromἐκtheτῆςseaθαλάσσηςἡJusticeδίκηto liveζῆνnotοὐκhas permittedεἴασεν.
5The [one]ὁindeedμὲνthenοὖνhaving shaken offἀποτινάξαςtheτὸcreatureθηρίονintoεἰςtheτὸfireπῦρhe sufferedἔπαθενnoοὐδὲνinjuryκακόν·
6οἱButδὲthey were expectingπροσεδόκωνhimαὐτὸνto be aboutμέλλεινto become inflamedπίμπρασθαιorἢto fall downκαταπίπτεινsuddenlyἄφνωdeadνεκρόν.A whileἐπὶgreatπολὺhoweverδὲof themαὐτῶνwaitingπροσδοκώντωνandκαὶseeingθεωρούντωνnothingμηδὲνamissἄτοπονtoεἰςhimαὐτὸνhappeningγινόμενον,having changed their opinionμεταβαλόμενοιthey began declaringἔλεγονhimαὐτὸνto beεἶναιa godθεόν.
7InἘνnowδὲthe [parts]τοῖςaroundπερὶtheτὸνplaceτόπονthatἐκεῖνονwereὑπῆρχενlandsχωρίαbelonging to theτῷchiefπρώτῳof theτῆςislandνήσουnamedὀνόματιPubliusΠοπλίῳ,whoὃςhaving receivedἀναδεξάμενοςusἡμᾶςthreeτρεῖςdaysἡμέραςhospitablyφιλοφρόνωςentertained [us]ἐξένισεν.
8It came to passἐγένετοthenδὲtheτὸνfatherπατέρατοῦof PubliusΠοπλίουfeversπυρετοῖςandκαὶdysenteryδυσεντερίῳoppressed withσυνεχόμενονwas lyingκατακεῖσθαι,towardπρὸςwhomὃνὁPaulΠαῦλοςhaving enteredεἰσελθὼνandκαὶhaving prayedπροσευξάμενοςhaving laidἐπιθεὶςtheτὰςhandsχεῖραςon himαὐτῷhealedἰάσατοhimαὐτόν.
9Of thisτούτουthenδὲhaving taken placeγενομένουalsoκαὶtheοἱrestλοιποὶοἱinἐνtheτῇislandνήσῳhavingἔχοντεςinfirmitiesἀσθενείαςwere comingπροσήρχοντοandκαὶwere healedἐθεραπεύοντο,
10whoοἳalsoκαὶwith manyπολλαῖςhonorsτιμαῖςhonoredἐτίμησανusἡμᾶςandκαὶon setting sailἀναγομένοιςthey laid on [us]ἐπέθεντοthe thingsτὰforπρὸςtheτὰςneedsχρείας.
11AfterΜετὰthenδὲthreeτρεῖςmonthsμῆναςwe sailedἀνήχθημενinἐνa shipπλοίῳhaving winteredπαρακεχειμακότιinἐνtheτῇislandνήσῳAlexandrianἈλεξανδρίνῳ,with a figurehead ofπαρασήμῳthe DioscuriΔιοσκούροις.
12Andκαὶhaving put inκαταχθέντεςatεἰςSyracuseΣυρακούσαςwe stayedἐπεμείναμενdaysἡμέραςthreeτρεῖς,
13from whereὅθενweighed anchorπεριελόντεςwe arrivedκατηντήσαμενatεἰςRhegiumῬήγιον.Andκαὶafterμετὰoneμίανdayἡμέρανhaving come onἐπιγενομένουa south windνότουon the second dayδευτεραῖοιwe cameἤλθομενtoεἰςPuteoliΠοτιόλους,
14whereοὗhaving foundεὑρόντες[some] brothersἀδελφοὺςwe were entreatedπαρεκλήθημενwithπαρ’themαὐτοῖςto remainἐπιμεῖναιdaysἡμέραςsevenἑπτά·AndκαὶsoοὕτωςtoεἰςτὴνRomeῬώμηνwe cameἤλθαμεν.
15And from thereκἀκεῖθενtheοἱbrothersἀδελφοὶhaving heardἀκούσαντεςthe thingsτὰconcerningπερὶusἡμῶνcame outἦλθανtoεἰςmeetἀπάντησινusἡμῖνas far asἄχριof AppiusἈππίου[the] marketΦόρουandκαὶ[the] ThreeΤριῶνTavernsΤαβερνῶν,whomοὓςhaving seenἰδὼνὁPaulΠαῦλοςhaving given thanksεὐχαριστήσαςtoτῷGodθεῷtookἔλαβεcourageθάρσος.
16WhenὍτεnowδὲwe cameεἰσήλθομενtoεἰςRomeῬώμην,was allowedἐπετράπητῷPaulΠαύλῳto stayμένεινbyκαθ’himselfἑαυτὸνwithσὺνtheτῷguardingφυλάσσοντιhimαὐτὸνsoldierστρατιώτῃ.
17It came to passἘγένετοthenδὲafterμετὰdaysἡμέραςthreeτρεῖςcalled togetherσυγκαλέσασθαιheαὐτὸνthoseτοὺςbeingὄνταςof theτῶνJewsἸουδαίωνleadersπρώτους·Having come togetherσυνελθόντωνthenδὲof themαὐτῶνhe was sayingἔλεγενtoπρὸςthemαὐτούς·IἘγώ,menἄνδρεςbrothersἀδελφοί,nothingοὐδὲνagainstἐναντίονhaving doneποιήσαςtheτῷpeopleλαῷorἢtheτοῖςcustomsἔθεσιτοῖςof our fathersπατρῴοιςa prisonerδέσμιοςfromἐξJerusalemἹεροσολύμωνwas deliveredπαρεδόθηνintoεἰςtheτὰςhandsχεῖραςof theτῶνRomansῬωμαίων,
18whoοἵτινεςhaving examinedἀνακρίναντέςmeμεwere wantingἐβούλοντοto let [me] goἀπολῦσαιon account ofδιὰτὸnot oneμηδεμίανcauseαἰτίανof deathθανάτουexistingὑπάρχεινinἐνmeἐμοί·
19Objectingἀντιλεγόντωνhoweverδὲof theτῶνJewsἸουδαίωνI was compelledἠναγκάσθηνto appeal toἐπικαλέσασθαιCaesarΚαίσαρα,notοὐχasὡςtheτοῦnationἔθνουςof meμουhavingἔχωνanythingτιto lay againstκατηγορεῖν.
20ForδιὰthisταύτηνthereforeοὖντὴνcauseαἰτίανI have calledπαρεκάλεσαyouὑμᾶςto seeἰδεῖνandκαὶto speak to [you]προσλαλῆσαι,because ofἕνεκενforγὰρtheτῆςhopeἐλπίδοςτοῦof IsraelἸσραὴλtheτὴνchainἅλυσινthisταύτηνI have around [me]περίκειμαι.
21οἱAndδὲtoπρὸςhimαὐτὸνthey saidεἶπαν·WeἩμεῖςneitherοὔτεlettersγράμματαconcerningπερὶyouσοῦreceivedἐδεξάμεθαfromἀπὸτῆςJudeaἸουδαίας,norοὔτεhaving arrivedπαραγενόμενόςanyτιςof theτῶνbrothersἀδελφῶνreportedἀπήγγειλενorἢsaidἐλάλησένanythingτιconcerningπερὶyouσοῦevilπονηρόν.
22We deem it worthyἀξιοῦμενhoweverδὲfromπαρὰyouσοῦto hearἀκοῦσαιwhatἃyou thinkφρονεῖς,concerningπερὶtrulyμὲνforγὰρtheτῆςsectαἱρέσεωςthisταύτηςknownγνωστὸνto usἡμῖνit isἐστινthatὅτιeverywhereπανταχοῦit is spoken againstἀντιλέγεται.
23Having appointedΤαξάμενοιthenδὲhimαὐτῷa dayἡμέρανcameἧκονtoπρὸςhimαὐτὸνtoεἰςtheτὴνlodgingξενίανmanyπλείονες,to whomοἷςhe expoundedἐξετίθετοfully testifyingδιαμαρτυρόμενοςto theτὴνkingdomβασιλείαντοῦof GodθεοῦpersuadingπείθωνthenτεthemαὐτοὺςconcerningπερὶτοῦJesusἸησοῦfromἀπόbothτεtheτοῦlawνόμουof MosesΜωϋσέωςandκαὶtheτῶνProphetsπροφητῶνfromἀπὸmorningπρωῒtoἕωςeveningἑσπέρας.
24Andκαὶsomeοἱindeedμὲνwere persuaded ofἐπείθοντοthe thingsτοῖςhe is speakingλεγομένοιςsomeοἱhoweverδὲrefused to believeἠπίστουν,
25Discordantἀσύμφωνοιthenδὲbeingὄντεςwithπρὸςone anotherἀλλήλουςthey began to leaveἀπελύοντο,having spokenεἰπόντοςτοῦPaulΠαύλουwordῥῆμαoneἓνὅτιRightlyΚαλῶςtheτὸSpiritπνεῦματὸHolyἅγιονspokeἐλάλησενbyδιὰIsaiahἨσαΐουtheτοῦprophetπροφήτουtoπρὸςtheτοὺςfathersπατέραςof youὑμῶν
26sayingλέγων·GoΠορεύθητιtoπρὸςtheτὸνpeopleλαὸνthisτοῦτονandκαὶsayεἰπόν·In hearingἈκοῇyou will hearἀκούσετεandκαὶnoοὐnotμὴunderstandσυνῆτε,andκαὶin seeingβλέποντεςyou will seeβλέψετεandκαὶnoοὐnotμὴperceiveἴδητε·
27Has grown dullἐπαχύνθηforγὰρtheἡheartκαρδίαof theτοῦpeopleλαοῦthisτούτου,andκαὶwith theτοῖςearsὠσὶνbarelyβαρέωςthey hearἤκουσαν,andκαὶtheτοὺςeyesὀφθαλμοὺςof themαὐτῶνthey have closedἐκάμμυσαν·lestμήποτεthey should seeἴδωσινwith theτοῖςeyesὀφθαλμοῖςandκαὶwith theτοῖςearsὠσὶνthey should hearἀκούσωσινandκαὶwith theτῇheartκαρδίᾳthey should understandσυνῶσινandκαὶshould turnἐπιστρέψωσιν,andκαὶI will healἰάσομαιthemαὐτούς.
28Knownγνωστὸνthereforeοὖνbe itἔστωto youὑμῖνthatὅτιto theτοῖςGentilesἔθνεσινhas been sentἀπεστάληthisτοῦτοτὸsalvationσωτήριοντοῦof Godθεοῦ·theyαὐτοὶthenκαὶwill listenἀκούσονται.
30He stayedἘνέμεινενthenδὲtwo yearsδιετίανwholeὅληνinἐνhis ownἰδίῳrented houseμισθώματι,andκαὶwas welcomingἀπεδέχετοallπάνταςτοὺςcomingεἰσπορευομένουςuntoπρὸςhimαὐτόν,
31proclaimingκηρύσσωνtheτὴνkingdomβασιλείαντοῦof Godθεοῦandκαὶteachingδιδάσκωνthe thingsτὰconcerningπερὶtheτοῦLordκυρίουJesusἸησοῦChristΧριστοῦwithμετὰallπάσηςboldnessπαρρησίαςunhinderedlyἀκωλύτως.
