Romans 7
1OrἪare you ignorantἀγνοεῖτε,brothersἀδελφοί,to those knowingγινώσκουσινforγὰρlawνόμονI speakλαλῶ,thatὅτιtheὁlawνόμοςrules overκυριεύειtheτοῦmanἀνθρώπουforἐφ’as long asὅσον[the] timeχρόνονhe is aliveζῇ;
2Theἡforγὰρmarriedὕπανδροςwomanγυνὴto theτῷlivingζῶντιhusbandἀνδρὶis boundδέδεταιby lawνόμῳ·ifἐὰνhoweverδὲshould dieἀποθάνῃtheὁhusbandἀνήρ,she is clearedκατήργηταιfromἀπὸtheτοῦlawνόμουof theτοῦhusbandἀνδρός.
3Thenἄραthereforeοὖνbeing aliveζῶντοςtheτοῦhusbandἀνδρὸςan adulteressμοιχαλὶςshe will be calledχρηματίσειifἐὰνshe isγένηταιto manἀνδρὶanotherἑτέρῳ·ifἐὰνhoweverδὲshould dieἀποθάνῃtheὁhusbandἀνήρ,freeἐλευθέραshe isἐστὶνfromἀπὸtheτοῦlawνόμου,[so as for]τοῦnotμὴto beεἶναιherαὐτὴνan adulteressμοιχαλίδαhaving beenγενομένηνto manἀνδρὶanotherἑτέρῳ.
4LikewiseὭστε,brothersἀδελφοίof meμου,alsoκαὶyouὑμεῖςhave been put to deathἐθανατώθητεto theτῷlawνόμῳthroughδιὰtheτοῦbodyσώματοςτοῦof ChristΧριστοῦ,forεἰςτὸto belongγενέσθαιyouὑμᾶςto anotherἑτέρῳ,to the [One]τῷout fromἐκ[the] deadνεκρῶνhaving been raisedἐγερθέντιso thatἵναwe should bear fruitκαρποφορήσωμεντῷto Godθεῷ.
5Whileὅτεforγὰρwe wereἦμενinἐνtheτῇfleshσαρκί,theτὰpassionsπαθήματατῶνof sinsἁμαρτιῶνthat [were]τὰthroughδιὰtheτοῦlawνόμουwere at workἐνηργεῖτοinἐνtheτοῖςmembersμέλεσινof usἡμῶνtoεἰςtheτὸbringing forth of fruitκαρποφορῆσαιτῷto deathθανάτῳ·
6Nowνυνὶhoweverδὲwe have been releasedκατηργήθημενfromἀπὸtheτοῦlawνόμου,having diedἀποθανόντεςtoἐνthat whichᾧwe were boundκατειχόμεθα,in order forὥστεto serveδουλεύεινusἡμᾶςinἐνnewnessκαινότητιof [the] Spiritπνεύματοςandκαὶnotοὐin oldnessπαλαιότητιof [the] letterγράμματος.
7WhatΤίthenοὖνshall we sayἐροῦμεν;[Is] theὁlawνόμοςsinἁμαρτία;Neverμὴmay it beγένοιτο·ButἀλλὰτὴνsinἁμαρτίανnotοὐκI have knownἔγνωνifεἰnotμὴbyδιὰlawνόμου,τήνthenτεforγὰρcovetousnessἐπιθυμίανnotοὐκI had been conscious ofᾔδεινifεἰnotμὴtheὁlawνόμοςhad saidἔλεγεν·NotΟὐκyou shall covetἐπιθυμήσεις·
8An occasionἀφορμὴνhoweverδὲhaving takenλαβοῦσαἡsinἁμαρτίαbyδιὰtheτῆςcommandmentἐντολῆςit producedκατειργάσατοinἐνmeἐμοὶallπᾶσανcovetousnessἐπιθυμίαν,apart fromχωρὶςforγὰρ[the] Lawνόμουsinἁμαρτία[is] deadνεκρά.
9Iἐγὼhoweverδὲwas aliveἔζωνapart fromχωρὶςlawνόμουonceποτέ·having comeἐλθούσηςhoweverδὲtheτῆςcommandmentἐντολῆςtheἡsinἁμαρτίαrevivedἀνέζησεν,
10Iἐγὼthenδὲdiedἀπέθανον,Andκαὶproved to beεὑρέθηmeμοιtheἡcommandmentἐντολὴthat [was]ἡtoεἰςlifeζωὴνthisαὕτηtoεἰςdeathθάνατον·
11Theἡforγὰρsinἁμαρτίαan occasionἀφορμὴνhaving takenλαβοῦσαbyδιὰtheτῆςcommandmentἐντολῆςdeceivedἐξηπάτησένmeμεandκαὶbyδι’itαὐτῆςput [me] to deathἀπέκτεινεν.
12Soὥστεὁindeedμὲνthe law [is]νόμοςholyἅγιος,andκαὶtheἡcommandment [is]ἐντολὴholyἁγίαandκαὶrighteousδικαίαandκαὶgoodἀγαθή.
13That whichΤὸthenοὖν[is] goodἀγαθὸνto meἐμοὶhas becomeἐγένετοdeathθάνατος;Neverμὴmay it beγένοιτο·Butἀλλὰἡsinἁμαρτία,in order thatἵναit might be shown to beφανῇsinἁμαρτίαthroughδιὰthat which [is]τοῦgoodἀγαθοῦto meμοιis working outκατεργαζομένηdeathθάνατον·so thatἵναmight becomeγένηταιbeyondκαθ’excessὑπερβολὴνsinfulἁμαρτωλὸςἡsinἁμαρτίαthroughδιὰtheτῆςcommandmentἐντολῆς.
14We knowΟἴδαμενforγὰρthatὅτιὁ[the] Lawνόμοςspiritualπνευματικόςisἐστιν·Iἐγὼhoweverδὲfleshlyσάρκινόςamεἰμι,having been soldπεπραμένοςunderὑπὸτὴνsinἁμαρτίαν.
15WhatὃforγὰρI doκατεργάζομαιnotοὐI understandγινώσκω·notοὐforγὰρwhatὃI wantθέλωthisτοῦτοI doπράσσω,butἀλλ’whatὃI hateμισῶthisτοῦτοI doποιῶ.
16Ifεἰnowδὲthat whichὃnotοὐI do wantθέλωthisτοῦτοI doποιῶ,I consentσύμφημιto theτῷlawνόμῳthat [it is]ὅτιgoodκαλός.
17In that caseνυνὶnowδὲno longerοὐκέτιIἐγὼam doingκατεργάζομαιitαὐτὸbutἀλλὰtheἡdwellsοἰκοῦσαinἐνmeἐμοὶsinἁμαρτία.
18I knowοἶδαforγὰρthatὅτιnothingοὐκthere dwellsοἰκεῖinἐνmeἐμοί,thatτοῦτ’isἔστινinἐνtheτῇfleshσαρκίof meμου,goodἀγαθόν·τὸforγὰρto willθέλεινis present withπαράκειταίmeμοι,τὸbutδὲto doκατεργάζεσθαιtheτὸgoodκαλὸνnotοὔ·
19NotοὐforγὰρthatὃI desireθέλωI doποιῶgoodἀγαθόν,butἀλλὰthatὃnotοὐI do wantθέλωevilκακὸνthisτοῦτοI practiceπράσσω.
20IfεἰnowδὲwhatὃnotοὐI do wantθέλωthisτοῦτοdoποιῶ,[it is] no longerοὐκέτιIἐγὼwho doκατεργάζομαιitαὐτὸbutἀλλὰἡdwellingοἰκοῦσαinἐνmeἐμοὶsinἁμαρτία.
21I findΕὑρίσκωsoἄραtheτὸνprincipleνόμονthatτῷdesiringθέλοντιmeἐμοὶto doποιεῖντὸgoodκαλὸνthatὅτιmeἐμοὶτὸevilκακὸνis present withπαράκειται·
22I delightσυνήδομαιforγὰρin theτῷlawνόμῳτοῦof Godθεοῦaccording toκατὰtheτὸνinwardἔσωmanἄνθρωπον,
23I seeβλέπωhoweverδὲanotherἕτερονlawνόμονinἐνtheτοῖςmembersμέλεσίνof meμουwarring againstἀντιστρατευόμενονtheτῷlawνόμῳof theτοῦmindνοόςof meμουandκαὶmaking captiveαἰχμαλωτίζοντάmeμεtoἐνtheτῷlawνόμῳτῆςof sinἁμαρτίαςτῷbeingὄντιinἐνtheτοῖςmembersμέλεσίνof meμου.
24O wretchedταλαίπωροςI amἐγὼmanἄνθρωπος·Whoτίςmeμεwill deliverῥύσεταιout ofἐκtheτοῦbodyσώματοςτοῦof deathθανάτουthisτούτου;
25Thanks [be]χάριςtoτῷGodθεῷthroughδιὰJesusἸησοῦChristΧριστοῦtheτοῦLordκυρίουof usἡμῶν.ThenἌραsoοὖνmyselfαὐτὸςIἐγὼwith theτῷindeedμὲνmindνοῒserveδουλεύωlawνόμῳGod’sθεοῦ,τῇbut [with]δὲthe fleshσαρκὶ[the] lawνόμῳof sinἁμαρτίας.
