1 Corinthians 14
1Earnestly pursueΔιώκετετὴνloveἀγάπην,earnestly desireζηλοῦτεnowδὲτὰspiritual giftsπνευματικά,especiallyμᾶλλονnowδὲthatἵναyou might prophesyπροφητεύητε.
2The [one]ὁforγὰρspeakingλαλῶνin a tongueγλώσσῃnotοὐκto menἀνθρώποιςspeaksλαλεῖbutἀλλὰto Godθεῷ,no oneοὐδεὶςforγὰρhearsἀκούει,in the Spiritπνεύματιhoweverδὲhe uttersλαλεῖmysteriesμυστήρια·
3The [one]ὁhoweverδὲprophesyingπροφητεύωνto menἀνθρώποιςspeaks [for]λαλεῖedificationοἰκοδομὴνandκαὶencouragementπαράκλησινandκαὶconsolationπαραμυθίαν.
4The [one]ὁspeakingλαλῶνin a tongueγλώσσῃhimselfἑαυτὸνedifiesοἰκοδομεῖ·the [one]ὁhoweverδὲprophesyingπροφητεύων[the] churchἐκκλησίανedifiesοἰκοδομεῖ.
5I desireθέλωnowδὲallπάνταςyouὑμᾶςto speakλαλεῖνin tonguesγλώσσαις,ratherμᾶλλονhoweverδὲthatἵναyou should prophesyπροφητεύητε·greater [is]μείζωνnowδὲthe [one]ὁprophesyingπροφητεύωνthanἢthe [one]ὁspeakingλαλῶνin tonguesγλώσσαις,exceptἐκτὸςifεἰnotμὴhe should interpretδιερμηνεύῃ,so thatἵναtheἡchurchἐκκλησίαedificationοἰκοδομὴνmight receiveλάβῃ.
6NowΝῦνhoweverδέ,brothersἀδελφοί,ifἐὰνI should comeἔλθωtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶςin tonguesγλώσσαιςspeakingλαλῶν,whatτίyouὑμᾶςwill I profitὠφελήσω,ifἐὰνnotμὴto youὑμῖνI should speakλαλήσωeitherἢinἐνrevelationἀποκαλύψειorἢinἐνknowledgeγνώσειorἢinἐνprophecyπροφητείᾳorἢofἐνteachingδιδαχῇ;
7Evenὅμωςτὰlifeless thingsἄψυχαa soundφωνὴνgivingδιδόντα,whetherεἴτεfluteαὐλὸςorεἴτεharpκιθάρα,ifἐὰνdistinctionδιαστολὴνto theτοῖςsoundsφθόγγοιςnotμὴthey giveδῷ,howπῶςwill it be knownγνωσθήσεταιwhat [is]τὸbeing pipedαὐλούμενονorἢτὸbeing harpedκιθαριζόμενον;
8Alsoκαὶforγὰρifἐὰνindistinctἄδηλονsoundφωνὴν[the] trumpetσάλπιγξgivesδῷ,whoτίςwill prepare himselfπαρασκευάσεταιforεἰςbattleπόλεμον;
9Soοὕτωςalsoκαὶyouὑμεῖςwithδιὰtheτῆςtongueγλώσσηςifἐὰνnotμὴintelligibleεὔσημονspeechλόγονyou giveδῶτε,howπῶςwill it be knownγνωσθήσεταιwhat [is]τὸbeing spokenλαλούμενον;You will beἔσεσθεforγὰρintoεἰς[the] airἀέραspeakingλαλοῦντες.
10So manyτοσαῦταifεἰit may beτύχοιkindsγένηof languagesφωνῶνthere areεἰσινinἐν[the] worldκόσμῳ,andκαὶnoneοὐδὲνwithout meaningἄφωνον·
11IfἐὰνthereforeοὖνnotμὴI knowεἰδῶtheτὴνpowerδύναμινof theτῆςsoundφωνῆς,I will beἔσομαιto the [one]τῷspeakingλαλοῦντιa foreignerβάρβαροςandκαὶthe [one]ὁspeakingλαλῶνtoἐνmeἐμοὶa foreignerβάρβαρος.
12Soοὕτωςalsoκαὶyouὑμεῖς,sinceἐπεὶzealousζηλωταίyou areἐστεof spiritual giftsπνευμάτων,forπρὸςtheτὴνedificationοἰκοδομὴνof theτῆςchurchἐκκλησίαςsearchζητεῖτεthatἵναyou should cause [it] to aboundπερισσεύητε.
13ThereforeΔιὸthe [one]ὁspeakingλαλῶνin a tongueγλώσσῃlet him prayπροσευχέσθωthatἵναhe might interpretδιερμηνεύῃ.
14IfἐὰνforγὰρI prayπροσεύχωμαιin a tongueγλώσσῃ,theτὸspiritπνεῦμάof meμουpraysπροσεύχεται,ὁbutδὲthe mindνοῦςof meμουunfruitfulἄκαρπόςisἐστιν.
15Whatτίthenοὖνis itἐστιν;I will prayπροσεύξομαιwith theτῷspiritπνεύματι,I will prayπροσεύξομαιhoweverδὲalsoκαὶwith theτῷmindνοΐ·I will sing praiseψαλῶwith theτῷspiritπνεύματι,I will sing praiseψαλῶhoweverδὲalsoκαὶwith theτῷmindνοΐ·
16Otherwiseἐπεὶifἐὰνyou blessεὐλογῇςspiritπνεύματι,the [one]ὁfillingἀναπληρῶνtheτὸνplaceτόπονof theτοῦuninstructedἰδιώτουhowπῶςwill he sayἐρεῖtheτὸAmenἈμήνatἐπὶτῇyourσῇthanksgivingεὐχαριστίᾳ;sinceἐπειδὴwhatτίyou sayλέγειςnotοὐκhe knowsοἶδεν·
17Youσὺtrulyμὲνforγὰρwellκαλῶςare giving thanksεὐχαριστεῖς,butἀλλ’theὁotherἕτεροςnotοὐκis edifiedοἰκοδομεῖται.
18I thankεὐχαριστῶτῷGodθεῷ,than allπάντωνof youὑμῶνmoreμᾶλλονin tonguesγλώσσαιςspeakingλαλῶ·
19butἀλλὰinἐν[the] churchἐκκλησίᾳI desireθέλωfiveπέντεwordsλόγουςwithτῷ[the] mindνοΐof meμουto speakλαλῆσαι,thatἵναalsoκαὶothersἄλλουςI might instructκατηχήσω,rather thanἢten thousandμυρίουςwordsλόγουςinἐνa tongueγλώσσῃ.
20BrothersἈδελφοί,notμὴchildrenπαιδίαbeγίνεσθεin theταῖςmindsφρεσίν,Yetἀλλὰin theτῇevilκακίᾳbe little childrenνηπιάζετε,in theταῖςhoweverδὲthinkingφρεσὶνfull grownτέλειοιbeγίνεσθε.
21Inἐνtheτῷlawνόμῳit has been writtenγέγραπταιὅτιByἘνother tonguesἑτερογλώσσοιςandκαὶbyἐνlipsχείλεσινotherἑτέρωνI will speakλαλήσωto theτῷpeopleλαῷthisτούτῳ,andκαὶnot evenοὐδ’thusοὕτωςwill they hearεἰσακούσονταίMeμου,saysλέγει[the] Lordκύριος.
22So thenὥστεαἱtonguesγλῶσσαιforεἰςa signσημεῖόνareεἰσινnotοὐto thoseτοῖςbelievingπιστεύουσινbutἀλλὰto theτοῖςunbelievingἀπίστοις,ἡbutδὲprophecyπροφητεία[is] notοὐto theτοῖςunbelievingἀπίστοιςbutἀλλὰto theτοῖςbelievingπιστεύουσιν.
23Ifἐὰνthereforeοὖνgathersσυνέλθῃtheἡchurchἐκκλησίαwholeὅληtogetherἐπὶtheτὸplaceαὐτὸandκαὶallπάντεςshould speakλαλῶσινin tonguesγλώσσαις,come inεἰσέλθωσινhoweverδὲuninstructed onesἰδιῶταιorἢunbelieversἄπιστοι,notοὐκwill they sayἐροῦσινthatὅτιyou are madμαίνεσθε;
24Ifἐὰνhoweverδὲallπάντεςprophesyπροφητεύωσιν,should come inεἰσέλθῃthenδέsomeτιςunbelieverἄπιστοςorἢuninstructedἰδιώτης,he is convictedἐλέγχεταιbyὑπὸallπάντων,he is examinedἀνακρίνεταιbyὑπὸallπάντων,
25theτὰsecretsκρυπτὰof theτῆςheartκαρδίαςof himαὐτοῦmanifestφανερὰbecomeγίνεται,Andκαὶthusοὕτωςhaving fallenπεσὼνuponἐπὶ[his] faceπρόσωπονhe will worshipπροσκυνήσειτῷGodθεῷ,declaringἀπαγγέλλωνthatὅτιcertainlyὌντωςὁGodθεὸςamongἐνyouὑμῖνisἐστιν.
26WhatΤίthenοὖνis itἐστιν,brothersἀδελφοί;Whenὅτανyou may come togetherσυνέρχησθε,eachἕκαστοςa psalmψαλμὸνhasἔχει,a teachingδιδαχὴνhasἔχει,a revelationἀποκάλυψινhasἔχει,a tongueγλῶσσανhasἔχει,an interpretationἑρμηνείανhasἔχει·All thingsπάνταforπρὸςedificationοἰκοδομὴνlet be doneγινέσθω.
27Ifεἴτεwith a tongueγλώσσῃanyoneτιςspeaksλαλεῖ,[let it be] byκατὰtwoδύοorἢtheτὸmostπλεῖστονthreeτρεῖς,andκαὶinἀνὰturnμέρος,andκαὶoneεἷςlet interpretδιερμηνευέτω·
28Ifἐὰνhoweverδὲnotμὴthere isᾖan interpreterδιερμηνευτής,let him be silentσιγάτωinἐν[the] churchἐκκλησίᾳ,to himselfἑαυτῷthenδὲlet him speakλαλείτωandκαὶτῷto Godθεῷ.
29Prophetsπροφῆταιthenδὲtwoδύοorἢthreeτρεῖςlet speakλαλείτωσαν,andκαὶtheοἱothersἄλλοιlet discernδιακρινέτωσαν·
30Ifἐὰνhoweverδὲto anotherἄλλῳa revelation should be madeἀποκαλυφθῇsitting byκαθημένῳ,theὁfirstπρῶτοςlet be silentσιγάτω.
31You are ableδύνασθεforγὰρ[one] byκαθ’oneἕναallπάντεςto prophesyπροφητεύειν,so thatἵναallπάντεςmay learnμανθάνωσινandκαὶallπάντεςmay be exhortedπαρακαλῶνται
32Andκαὶspiritsπνεύματαof prophetsπροφητῶνto prophetsπροφήταιςare subjectὑποτάσσεται,
33NotοὐforγάρHe isἐστινof disorderἀκαταστασίαςtheὁGodθεὸςbutἀλλὰof peaceεἰρήνης,Asὡςinἐνallπάσαιςtheταῖςchurchesἐκκλησίαιςof theτῶνsaintsἁγίων.
34theΑἱwomenγυναῖκεςinἐνtheταῖςchurchesἐκκλησίαιςlet them be silentσιγάτωσαν,Notοὐforγὰρit is allowedἐπιτρέπεταιto themαὐταῖςto speakλαλεῖν·butἀλλὰto be in submissionὑποτασσέσθωσαν,asκαθὼςalsoκαὶtheὁlawνόμοςsaysλέγει.
35Ifεἰhoweverδέanythingτιto learnμαθεῖνthey desireθέλουσιν,atἐνhomeοἴκῳtheτοὺςownἰδίουςhusbandsἄνδραςlet them askἐπερωτάτωσαν,shamefulαἰσχρὸνforγάρit isἐστινfor a womanγυναικὶto speakλαλεῖνinἐν[the] churchἐκκλησίᾳ.
36Orἢfromἀφ’youὑμῶνtheὁwordλόγοςτοῦof Godθεοῦhas gone outἐξῆλθεν,Orἢtoεἰςyouὑμᾶςonlyμόνουςhas it comeκατήντησεν;
37IfΕἴanyoneτιςconsidersδοκεῖa prophetπροφήτηςhimself to beεἶναιorἢspiritualπνευματικός,let him recognizeἐπιγινωσκέτωthe thingsἃI writeγράφωto youὑμῖνthatὅτιof [the] Lordκυρίουareἐστίν·
38Ifεἰhoweverδέanyoneτιςis ignorantἀγνοεῖ,let him be ignoredἀγνοεῖται.
39Soὥστε,brothersἀδελφοίof meμου,earnestly desireζηλοῦτετὸto prophesyπροφητεύειν,andκαὶτὸto speakλαλεῖνnotμὴdo forbidκωλύετεin tonguesγλώσσαις·
40All thingsπάνταhoweverδὲproperlyεὐσχημόνωςandκαὶwithκατὰorderτάξινlet be doneγινέσθω.
