Luke 1
1Inasmuch asἘπειδήπερmanyπολλοὶhave undertakenἐπεχείρησανto draw upἀνατάξασθαιa narrationδιήγησινconcerningπερὶtheτῶνhaving been accomplishedπεπληροφορημένωνamongἐνusἡμῖνthingsπραγμάτων,
2asκαθὼςdelivered [them]παρέδοσανto usἡμῖνthoseοἱfromἀπ’[the] beginningἀρχῆςeyewitnessesαὐτόπταιandκαὶservantsὑπηρέταιhaving beenγενόμενοιof theτοῦwordλόγου,
3it seemed goodἔδοξεalso to meκἀμοὶhaving been acquaintedπαρηκολουθηκότιfrom the firstἄνωθενwith all thingsπᾶσινcarefullyἀκριβῶςwith methodκαθεξῆςto youσοιto writeγράψαι,most excellentκράτιστεTheophilusΘεόφιλε,
4so thatἵναyou may knowἐπιγνῷςconcerningπερὶwhichὧνyou were instructedκατηχήθης[of the] thingsλόγωνtheτὴνcertaintyἀσφάλειαν.
5There wasἘγένετοinἐνtheταῖςdaysἡμέραιςof HerodἩρῴδουkingβασιλέωςτῆςof JudeaἸουδαίαςa priestἱερεύςcertainτιςnamedὀνόματιZechariahΖαχαρίαςof [the]ἐξdivisionἐφημερίαςof AbijahἈβιά,andκαὶwifeγυνὴof himαὐτῷofἐκtheτῶνdaughtersθυγατέρωνof AaronἈαρών,andκαὶtheτὸnameὄνομαof herαὐτῆςElizabethἘλισάβετ.
6They wereἦσανnowδὲrighteousδίκαιοιbothἀμφότεροιbeforeἐναντίοντοῦGodθεοῦ,walkingπορευόμενοιinἐνallπάσαιςtheταῖςcommandmentsἐντολαῖςandκαὶordinancesδικαιώμασινof theτοῦLordκυρίουblamelessἄμεμπτοι.
7Andκαὶnoοὐκthere wasἦνto themαὐτοῖςchildτέκνον,inasmuch asκαθότιwasἦνἡElizabethἘλισάβετbarrenστεῖρα,andκαὶbothἀμφότεροιadvancedπροβεβηκότεςinἐνtheταῖςyearsἡμέραιςof themαὐτῶνwereἦσαν.
8It came to passἘγένετοnowδὲinἐνtheτῷfulfilling the priestly serviceἱερατεύεινof himαὐτὸνinἐνtheτῇorderτάξειof theτῆςdivisionἐφημερίαςof himαὐτοῦbeforeἔναντιτοῦGodθεοῦ
9according toκατὰtheτὸcustomἔθοςof theτῆςpriesthoodἱερατείαςit fell to him by lotἔλαχετοῦto burn incenseθυμιᾶσαιhaving enteredεἰσελθὼνintoεἰςtheτὸνtempleναὸνof theτοῦLordκυρίου,
10Andκαὶallπᾶνtheτὸmultitudeπλῆθοςwereἦνof theτοῦpeopleλαοῦprayingπροσευχόμενονoutsideἔξωat theτῇhourὥρᾳof theτοῦincenseθυμιάματος·
11Appearedὤφθηthenδὲto himαὐτῷan angelἄγγελοςof [the] Lordκυρίουstandingἑστὼςatἐκ[the] rightδεξιῶνof theτοῦaltarθυσιαστηρίουof theτοῦincenseθυμιάματος.
12Andκαὶwas troubledἐταράχθηZechariahΖαχαρίαςhaving seen [him]ἰδών,andκαὶfearφόβοςfellἐπέπεσενuponἐπ’himαὐτόν.
13Saidεἶπενthenδὲtoπρὸςhimαὐτὸνtheὁangelἄγγελος·NotΜὴfearφοβοῦ,ZechariahΖαχαρία,becauseδιότιhas been heardεἰσηκούσθηtheἡprayerδέησίςof youσου,andκαὶtheἡwifeγυνήof YouσουElizabethἘλισάβετwill bearγεννήσειa sonυἱόνto youσοι,andκαὶyou shall callκαλέσειςtheτὸnameὄνομαof himαὐτοῦJohnἸωάννην·
14Andκαὶhe will beἔσταιjoyχαράto youσοιandκαὶgladnessἀγαλλίασις,andκαὶmanyπολλοὶatἐπὶtheτῇbirthγενέσειof himαὐτοῦwill rejoiceχαρήσονται·
15He will beἔσταιforγὰρgreatμέγαςbeforeἐνώπιονtheτοῦLordκυρίου,andκαὶwineοἶνονandκαὶstrong drinkσίκεραnoοὐnotμὴshall he drinkπίῃ,andκαὶ[of the] SpiritπνεύματοςHolyἁγίουhe will be filledπλησθήσεταιevenἔτιfromἐκ[the] wombκοιλίαςof [the] motherμητρὸςof himαὐτοῦ,
16Andκαὶmanyπολλοὺςof theτῶνsonsυἱῶνof IsraelἸσραὴλhe will turnἐπιστρέψειtoἐπὶ[the] LordκύριονtheτὸνGodθεὸνof themαὐτῶν·
17Andκαὶheαὐτὸςwill go forthπροελεύσεταιbeforeἐνώπιονHimαὐτοῦinἐν[the] spiritπνεύματιandκαὶpowerδυνάμειof ElijahἨλίου,to turnἐπιστρέψαι[the] heartsκαρδίαςof [the] fathersπατέρωνtoἐπὶ[the] childrenτέκναandκαὶ[the] disobedientἀπειθεῖςtoἐν[the] wisdomφρονήσειof [the] righteousδικαίων,to make readyἑτοιμάσαιfor [the] Lordκυρίῳa peopleλαὸνpreparedκατεσκευασμένον.
18AndκαὶsaidεἶπενZechariahΖαχαρίαςtoπρὸςtheτὸνangelἄγγελον·ByΚατὰwhatτίwill I knowγνώσομαιthisτοῦτο;Iἐγὼforγάρamεἰμιan old manπρεσβύτηςandκαὶtheἡwifeγυνήof meμουis advancedπροβεβηκυῖαinἐνtheταῖςyearsἡμέραιςof herαὐτῆς.
19Andκαὶansweringἀποκριθεὶςtheὁangelἄγγελοςsaidεἶπενto himαὐτῷ·IἘγώamεἰμιGabrielΓαβριὴλthe [one]ὁstandingπαρεστηκὼςbeforeἐνώπιοντοῦGodθεοῦ,andκαὶI was sentἀπεστάληνto speakλαλῆσαιtoπρὸςyouσὲandκαὶto bring glad tidingsεὐαγγελίσασθαίto youσοιtheseταῦτα·
20Andκαὶbeholdἰδοὺyou will beἔσῃsilentσιωπῶνandκαὶnotμὴableδυνάμενοςto speakλαλῆσαιuntilἄχριthatἧςdayἡμέραςshall take placeγένηταιthese thingsταῦτα,in return forἀνθ’thatὧνnotοὐκyou did believeἐπίστευσαςtheτοῖςwordsλόγοιςof meμου,whichοἵτινεςwill be fulfilledπληρωθήσονταιinεἰςtheτὸνseasonκαιρὸνof themαὐτῶν.
21AndΚαὶwereἦνtheὁpeopleλαὸςexpectingπροσδοκῶντὸνZechariahΖαχαρίαν,andκαὶthey were wonderingἐθαύμαζονatἐνtheτῷdelayingχρονίζεινinἐνtheτῷtempleναῷof himαὐτόν.
22Having come outἐξελθὼνthenδὲnotοὐκhe was ableἐδύνατοto speakλαλῆσαιto themαὐτοῖς,andκαὶthey recognizedἐπέγνωσανthatὅτιa visionὀπτασίανhe had seenἑώρακενinἐνtheτῷtempleναῷ·Andκαὶheαὐτὸςwasἦνmaking signsδιανεύωνto themαὐτοῖς,andκαὶremainedδιέμενενmuteκωφός.
23Andκαὶit came to passἐγένετοwhenὡςwere fulfilledἐπλήσθησανtheαἱdaysἡμέραιof theτῆςserviceλειτουργίαςof himαὐτοῦ,he departedἀπῆλθενtoεἰςtheτὸνhomeοἶκονof himαὐτοῦ.
24AfterΜετὰthenδὲtheseταύταςτὰςdaysἡμέραςconceivedσυνέλαβενElizabethἘλισάβετtheἡwifeγυνὴof himαὐτοῦ·andκαὶhidπεριέκρυβενherselfἑαυτὴνmonthsμῆναςfiveπέντε,sayingλέγουσα
25ὅτιThusΟὕτωςto meμοιhas doneπεποίηκενthe Lordκύριοςinἐν[the] daysἡμέραιςin whichαἷςHe looked upon [me]ἐπεῖδενto take awayἀφελεῖν[the] disgraceὄνειδόςof meμουamongἐνmenἀνθρώποις.
26InἘνnowδὲtheτῷmonthμηνὶτῷsixthἕκτῳwas sentἀπεστάληtheὁangelἄγγελοςGabrielΓαβριὴλbyἀπὸτοῦGodθεοῦtoεἰςa cityπόλιντῆςof GalileeΓαλιλαίαςwhoseᾗname [was]ὄνομαNazarethΝαζαρὲθ
27toπρὸςa virginπαρθένονbetrothedἐμνηστευμένηνto a manἀνδρὶwhoseᾧname [was]ὄνομαJosephἸωσὴφofἐξ[the] houseοἴκουof DavidΔαυίδ,andκαὶtheτὸnameὄνομαof theτῆςvirginπαρθένου[was] MaryΜαριάμ.
28Andκαὶhaving comeεἰσελθὼνtoπρὸςherαὐτὴνhe saidεἶπεν·GreetingsΧαῖρε,[you] favored with graceκεχαριτωμένη,TheὁLord [is]κύριοςwithμετὰyouσοῦ.
29ἡAndδὲatἐπὶtheτῷstatementλόγῳshe was troubledδιεταράχθηandκαὶwas ponderingδιελογίζετοwhat kindποταπὸςmight beεἴηtheὁsalutationἀσπασμὸςthisοὗτος.
30Andκαὶsaidεἶπενtheὁangelἄγγελοςto herαὐτῇ·NotΜὴfearφοβοῦ,MaryΜαριάμ,you have foundεὗρεςforγὰρfavorχάρινwithπαρὰτῷGodθεῷ·
31andκαὶbeholdἰδοὺyou will conceiveσυλλήμψῃinἐνwombγαστρὶandκαὶwill bring forthτέξῃa sonυἱόν,andκαὶyou shall callκαλέσειςtheτὸnameὄνομαof HimαὐτοῦJesusἸησοῦν.
32Heοὗτοςwill beἔσταιgreatμέγαςandκαὶSonυἱὸςof [the] Most HighὙψίστουHe will be calledκληθήσεται,andκαὶwill giveδώσειHimαὐτῷ[the] LordκύριοςὁGodθεὸςtheτὸνthroneθρόνονof DavidΔαυὶδof theτοῦfatherπατρὸςof Himαὐτοῦ,
33andκαὶHe will reignβασιλεύσειoverἐπὶtheτὸνhouseοἶκονof JacobἸακὼβtoεἰςtheτοὺςagesαἰῶνας,andκαὶof theτῆςkingdomβασιλείαςof Himαὐτοῦnotοὐκthere will beἔσταιan endτέλος.
34SaidεἶπενthenδὲMaryΜαριὰμtoπρὸςtheτὸνangelἄγγελον·HowΠῶςwill beἔσταιthisτοῦτο,sinceἐπεὶa manἄνδραnotοὐI knowγινώσκω;
35Andκαὶansweringἀποκριθεὶςtheὁangelἄγγελοςsaidεἶπενto herαὐτῇ·[the] SpiritΠνεῦμαHolyἅγιονwill comeἐπελεύσεταιuponἐπὶyouσέ,andκαὶpowerδύναμιςof [the] Most HighὙψίστουwill overshadowἐπισκιάσειyouσοι·thereforeδιὸalsoκαὶtheτὸbeing bornγεννώμενονHoly [One]ἅγιονwill be calledκληθήσεται,[the] Sonυἱὸςof Godθεοῦ·
36AndκαὶbeholdἰδοὺElizabethἘλισάβετtheἡrelativeσυγγενίςof youσουalsoκαὶsheαὐτὴhas conceivedσυνείληφενa sonυἱὸνinἐνold ageγήρειherαὐτῆς,andκαὶthisοὗτοςmonthμὴν[the] sixthἕκτοςisἐστὶνto herαὐτῇwhoτῇ[was] calledκαλουμένῃbarrenστείρᾳ·
37Forὅτιnotοὐκwill be impossibleἀδυνατήσειwithπαρὰτοῦGodθεοῦeveryπᾶνthingῥῆμα.
38SaidεἶπενthenδὲMaryΜαριάμ·BeholdἸδοὺtheἡhandmaidδούληof [the] Lordκυρίου·May it happenγένοιτόto meμοιaccording toκατὰtheτὸwordῥῆμάof youσου.Andκαὶdepartedἀπῆλθενfromἀπ’herαὐτῆςtheὁangelἄγγελος.
39Having risen upἈναστᾶσαthenδὲMaryΜαριὰμinἐνtheταῖςdaysἡμέραιςthisταύταιςshe wentἐπορεύθηintoεἰςtheτὴνhill countryὀρεινὴνwithμετὰhasteσπουδῆςtoεἰςa townπόλινof JudahἸούδα,
40andκαὶshe enteredεἰσῆλθενintoεἰςtheτὸνhouseοἶκονof ZechariahΖαχαρίουandκαὶgreetedἠσπάσατοτὴνElizabethἘλισάβετ.
41Andκαὶit came to passἐγένετοasὡςheardἤκουσενtheτὸνgreetingἀσπασμὸντῆςof MaryΜαρίαςἡElizabethἘλισάβετ,leapedἐσκίρτησενtheτὸbabyβρέφοςinἐνtheτῇwombκοιλίᾳof herαὐτῆς,andκαὶwas filledἐπλήσθηwith [the] SpiritπνεύματοςHolyἁγίουἡElizabethἘλισάβετ,
42andκαὶshe cried outἀνεφώνησενin a voiceκραυγῇloudμεγάλῃandκαὶsaidεἶπεν·Blessed areΕὐλογημένηyouσὺamongἐνwomenγυναιξίν,andκαὶblessed isεὐλογημένοςtheὁfruitκαρπὸςof theτῆςwombκοιλίαςof youσου.
43Andκαὶfrom whereπόθενto meμοιthisτοῦτοthatἵναshould comeἔλθῃtheἡmotherμήτηρof theτοῦLordκυρίουof meμουtoπρὸςmeἐμέ;
44Beholdἰδοὺforγὰρasὡςcameἐγένετοtheἡvoiceφωνὴof theτοῦgreetingἀσπασμοῦof youσουintoεἰςtheτὰearsὦτάof meμου,leapedἐσκίρτησενinἐνexultationἀγαλλιάσειtheτὸbabyβρέφοςinἐνtheτῇwombκοιλίᾳof meμου.
45Andκαὶblessed [is]μακαρίαthe [one]ἡhaving believedπιστεύσασαthatὅτιthere will beἔσταιa fulfillmentτελείωσιςto the thingsτοῖςspokenλελαλημένοιςto herαὐτῇfromπαρὰ[the] Lordκυρίου.
46AndΚαὶsaidεἶπενMaryΜαριάμ·MagnifiesΜεγαλύνειtheἡsoulψυχήof MeμουtheτὸνLordκύριον,
47andκαὶrejoicesἠγαλλίασενtheτὸspiritπνεῦμάof meμουinἐπὶτῷGodθεῷtheτῷSaviorσωτῆρίof meμου·
48ForὅτιHe has lookedἐπέβλεψενuponἐπὶtheτὴνhumiliationταπείνωσινof theτῆςhandmaidenδούληςof Himαὐτοῦ,Beholdἰδοὺforγὰρfromἀπὸτοῦhenceforthνῦνwill count blessedμακαριοῦσίνmeμεallπᾶσαιtheαἱgenerationsγενεαί·
49Forὅτιhas doneἐποίησένto meμοιgreat thingsμεγάλαtheὁMighty Oneδυνατός,Andκαὶholy [is]ἅγιονtheτὸnameὄνομαof Himαὐτοῦ,
50Andκαὶtheτὸmercyἔλεοςof Himαὐτοῦ[is] toεἰςgenerationsγενεὰςandκαὶgenerationsγενεὰςto thoseτοῖςfearingφοβουμένοιςHimαὐτόν.
51He has shownἘποίησενstrengthκράτοςwithἐνthe armβραχίονιof Himαὐτοῦ,He has scatteredδιεσκόρπισεν[the] proudὑπερηφάνουςin [the] thoughtδιανοίᾳof heartκαρδίαςof themαὐτῶν·
52He has brought downκαθεῖλενrulersδυνάσταςfromἀπὸthronesθρόνωνandκαὶexaltedὕψωσεν[the] humbleταπεινούς,
53[Those] hungeringπεινῶνταςHe has filledἐνέπλησενwith good thingsἀγαθῶνandκαὶ[those] being richπλουτοῦνταςHe has sent awayἐξαπέστειλενemptyκενούς.
54He has helpedἀντελάβετοIsraelἸσραὴλ[the] servantπαιδὸςof Himαὐτοῦ,rememberingμνησθῆναιmercyἐλέους,
55asκαθὼςHe spokeἐλάλησενtoπρὸςtheτοὺςfathersπατέραςof usἡμῶν,τῷto AbrahamἈβραὰμandκαὶto theτῷdescendantsσπέρματιof himαὐτοῦtoεἰςtheτὸνageαἰῶνα.
56DweltἜμεινενthenδὲMaryΜαριὰμwithσὺνherαὐτῇaboutὡςmonthsμῆναςthreeτρεῖς,andκαὶreturnedὑπέστρεψενtoεἰςtheτὸνhomeοἶκονof herαὐτῆς.
57ToΤῇnowδὲElizabethἘλισάβετwas fulfilledἐπλήσθηtheὁtimeχρόνοςτοῦto give birthτεκεῖνfor herαὐτήν,andκαὶshe boreἐγέννησενa sonυἱόν.
58Andκαὶheardἤκουσανtheοἱneighborsπερίοικοιandκαὶοἱrelativesσυγγενεῖςof herαὐτῆςthatὅτιwas magnifyingἐμεγάλυνεν[the] Lordκύριοςtheτὸmercyἔλεοςof Himαὐτοῦwithμετ’herαὐτῆς,andκαὶthey were rejoicing withσυνέχαιρονherαὐτῇ.
59AndΚαὶit came to passἐγένετοonἐντῇdayἡμέρᾳtheτῇeighthὀγδόῃthey cameἦλθονto circumciseπεριτεμεῖνtheτὸchildπαιδίον,andκαὶwere callingἐκάλουνitαὐτὸafterἐπὶtheτῷnameὀνόματιof theτοῦfatherπατρὸςof himαὐτοῦZechariahΖαχαρίαν.
60Andκαὶansweringἀποκριθεῖσαtheἡmotherμήτηρof himαὐτοῦsaidεἶπεν·NoΟὐχί,butἀλλὰhe will be calledκληθήσεταιJohnἸωάννης.
61Andκαὶthey saidεἶπανtoπρὸςherαὐτὴνὅτιNo oneΟὐδείςisἐστινamongἐκtheτῆςrelativesσυγγενείαςof youσουwhoὃςis calledκαλεῖταιtheτῷnameὀνόματιby thisτούτῳ.
62They were making signsἐνένευονthenδὲto theτῷfatherπατρὶof himαὐτοῦtheτὸwhatτίἂνhe might wishθέλοιto be calledκαλεῖσθαιhimαὐτό.
63Andκαὶhaving asked forαἰτήσαςa writing tabletπινακίδιονhe wroteἔγραψενsayingλέγων·JohnἸωάννηςisἐστὶν[the] nameὄνομαof himαὐτοῦ.Andκαὶthey marveledἐθαύμασανallπάντες.
64Was openedἀνεῴχθηthenδὲtheτὸmouthστόμαof himαὐτοῦimmediatelyπαραχρῆμαandκαὶtheἡtongueγλῶσσαof himαὐτοῦ,andκαὶhe was speakingἐλάλειblessingεὐλογῶντὸνGodθεόν.
65Andκαὶcameἐγένετοuponἐπὶallπάνταςfearφόβοςthoseτοὺςdwelling aroundπεριοικοῦνταςthemαὐτούς,andκαὶinἐνallὅλῃtheτῇhill countryὀρεινῇτῆςof JudeaἸουδαίαςwere being talked aboutδιελαλεῖτοallπάνταthe thingsτὰwordsῥήματαtheseταῦτα,
66Andκαὶlaid [them] upἔθεντοallπάντεςthoseοἱhaving heardἀκούσαντεςinἐνtheτῇheartκαρδίᾳof themαὐτῶν,sayingλέγοντες·WhatΤίthenἄραtheτὸchildπαιδίονthisτοῦτοwill beἔσται;Andκαὶforγὰρ[the] handχεὶρof [the] Lordκυρίουwasἦνwithμετ’himαὐτοῦ.
67AndΚαὶZechariahΖαχαρίαςtheὁfatherπατὴρof himαὐτοῦwas filledἐπλήσθηwith [the] SpiritπνεύματοςHolyἁγίουandκαὶprophesiedἐπροφήτευσενsayingλέγων·
68Blessed beΕὐλογητὸς[the] LordκύριοςtheὁGodθεὸςτοῦof IsraelἸσραήλ,becauseὅτιHe has visitedἐπεσκέψατοandκαὶhas performedἐποίησενredemptionλύτρωσιν[on] theτῷpeopleλαῷof Himαὐτοῦ,
69andκαὶhas raised upἤγειρενa hornκέραςof salvationσωτηρίαςfor usἡμῖνinἐν[the] houseοἴκῳof DavidΔαυὶδof [the] servantπαιδὸςof Himαὐτοῦ,
70asκαθὼςHe spokeἐλάλησενbyδιὰ[the] mouthστόματοςof theτῶνholyἁγίωνofἀπ’oldαἰῶνοςprophetsπροφητῶνof Himαὐτοῦ,
71salvationσωτηρίανfromἐξ[the] enemiesἐχθρῶνof usἡμῶνandκαὶfromἐκ[the] handχειρὸςof allπάντωνthoseτῶνhatingμισούντωνusἡμᾶς,
72to fulfillποιῆσαιmercyἔλεοςtowardμετὰtheτῶνfathersπατέρωνof usἡμῶνandκαὶto rememberμνησθῆναι[the] covenantδιαθήκηςholyἁγίαςof Himαὐτοῦ,
73[the] oathὅρκονthatὃνHe sworeὤμοσενtoπρὸςAbrahamἈβραὰμtheτὸνfatherπατέραof usἡμῶν,τοῦto grantδοῦναιusἡμῖν
74without fearἀφόβωςfromἐκ[the] handχειρὸςof our enemiesἐχθρῶνhaving been savedῥυσθένταςto serveλατρεύεινHimαὐτῷ
75inἐνholinessὁσιότητιandκαὶrighteousnessδικαιοσύνῃbeforeἐνώπιονHimαὐτοῦallπάσαιςtheταῖςdaysἡμέραιςof our lifeἡμῶν.
76Andκαὶyouσὺnowδέ,childπαιδίον,prophetπροφήτηςof [the] Most HighὙψίστουwill be calledκληθήσῃ,you will goπροπορεύσῃforγὰρbeforeἐνώπιονthe Lordκυρίουto prepareἑτοιμάσαιwaysὁδοὺςof Himαὐτοῦ,
77τοῦto giveδοῦναιknowledgeγνῶσινof salvationσωτηρίαςtoτῷpeopleλαῷof Himαὐτοῦinἐνforgivenessἀφέσειof [the] sinsἁμαρτιῶνof themαὐτῶν,
78throughδιὰ[the] affectionsσπλάγχναof compassionἐλέουςof Godθεοῦof usἡμῶν,inἐνwhichοἷςwill visitἐπισκέψεταιusἡμᾶς[the] Sunriseἀνατολὴfromἐξon highὕψους,
79to shine uponἐπιφᾶναιthoseτοῖςinἐνdarknessσκότειandκαὶin [the] shadowσκιᾷof deathθανάτουsittingκαθημένοις,τοῦto directκατευθῦναιtheτοὺςfeetπόδαςof usἡμῶνintoεἰς[the] wayὁδὸνof peaceεἰρήνης.
