Luke 2

1It came to passἘγένετοthenδὲinἐνtheταῖςdaysἡμέραιςthoseἐκείναιςwent outἐξῆλθενa decreeδόγμαfromπαρὰCaesarΚαίσαροςAugustusΑὐγούστουto registerἀπογράφεσθαιallπᾶσανtheτὴνworldοἰκουμένην·

2Thisαὕτηregistrationἀπογραφὴfirstπρώτηtook place [when]ἐγένετοwas governingἡγεμονεύοντοςτῆςSyriaΣυρίαςQuiriniusΚυρηνίου·

3Andκαὶwere goingἐπορεύοντοallπάντεςto be registeredἀπογράφεσθαι,eachἕκαστοςtoεἰςtheτὴνof themselvesἑαυτοῦcityπόλιν.

4Went upἈνέβηthenδὲalsoκαὶJosephἸωσὴφfromἀπὸτῆςGalileeΓαλιλαίαςout ofἐκ[the] townπόλεωςof NazarethΝαζαρὲθtoεἰςτὴνJudeaἸουδαίανtoεἰς[the] Cityπόλινof DavidΔαυὶδwhichἥτιςis calledκαλεῖταιBethlehemΒηθλέεμ,because ofδιὰτὸbeingεἶναιhisαὐτὸνofἐξ[the] houseοἴκουandκαὶfamilyπατριᾶςof DavidΔαυίδ,

5to registerἀπογράψασθαιwithσὺνMaryΜαριὰμthe [one]τῇbeing betrothedἐμνηστευμένῃto himαὐτῷ,she beingοὔσῃwith childἐγκύῳ.

6It came to passἐγένετοthenδὲinἐνtheirτῷbeingεἶναιαὐτοὺςthereἐκεῖwere fulfilledἐπλήσθησανtheαἱdaysἡμέραιof theτοῦgiving birthτεκεῖνof herαὐτήν,

7Andκαὶshe brought forthἔτεκενtheτὸνsonυἱὸνof herαὐτῆςtheτὸνfirstbornπρωτότοκον,andκαὶwrapped in swaddling clothsἐσπαργάνωσενhimαὐτὸνandκαὶlaidἀνέκλινενHimαὐτὸνinἐνa mangerφάτνῃ,becauseδιότιnotοὐκthere wasἦνfor themαὐτοῖςa placeτόποςinἐνtheτῷinnκαταλύματι.

8AndΚαὶshepherdsποιμένεςwereἦσανinἐνtheτῇregionχώρᾳτῇsameαὐτῇlodging in the fieldsἀγραυλοῦντεςandκαὶkeepingφυλάσσοντεςwatchφυλακὰςτῆςby nightνυκτὸςoverἐπὶtheτὴνflockποίμνηνof themαὐτῶν.

9Andκαὶan angelἄγγελοςof [the] Lordκυρίουstood byἐπέστηthemαὐτοῖςandκαὶ[the] gloryδόξαof [the] Lordκυρίουshone aroundπεριέλαμψενthemαὐτούς,andκαὶthey fearedἐφοβήθησαν[with] fearφόβονgreatμέγαν·

10Andκαὶsaidεἶπενto themαὐτοῖςtheὁangelἄγγελος·NotΜὴfearφοβεῖσθε,beholdἰδοὺforγὰρI bring good newsεὐαγγελίζομαιto youὑμῖν[of] joyχαρὰνgreatμεγάληνwhichἥτιςwill beἔσταιto allπαντὶtheτῷpeopleλαῷ,

11Forὅτιhas been bornἐτέχθηto youὑμῖνtodayσήμερονa SaviorσωτὴρwhoὅςisἐστινChristχριστὸς[the] Lordκύριοςinἐν[the] Cityπόλειof DavidΔαυίδ·

12Andκαὶthis [is]τοῦτοto youὑμῖνtheτὸsignσημεῖον,You will findεὑρήσετεa babyβρέφοςwrapped in swaddling clothsἐσπαργανωμένονandκαὶlyingκείμενονinἐνa mangerφάτνῃ.

13Andκαὶsuddenlyἐξαίφνηςthere cameἐγένετοwithσὺνtheτῷangelἀγγέλῳa multitudeπλῆθοςof [the] hostστρατιᾶςheavenlyοὐρανίουpraisingαἰνούντωντὸνGodθεὸνandκαὶsayingλεγόντων·

14GloryΔόξαinἐν[the] highestὑψίστοιςto Godθεῷandκαὶonἐπὶearthγῆςpeaceεἰρήνηamongἐνmenἀνθρώποιςwith whom He is pleasedεὐδοκίας.

15AndΚαὶit came to passἐγένετοasὡςwere departingἀπῆλθονfromἀπ’themαὐτῶνintoεἰςtheτὸνheavenοὐρανὸνtheοἱangelsἄγγελοι,theοἱshepherdsποιμένεςwere sayingἐλάλουνtoπρὸςone anotherἀλλήλους·Let us go throughΔιέλθωμενindeedδὴas far asἕωςBethlehemΒηθλέεμandκαὶlet us seeἴδωμενtheτὸwordῥῆμαthisτοῦτοthatτὸhas come to passγεγονὸςwhichὃtheὁLordκύριοςhas made knownἐγνώρισενto usἡμῖν.

16Andκαὶthey cameἦλθανhaving hurriedσπεύσαντεςandκαὶfoundἀνεῦραντήνbothτεMaryΜαριὰμandκαὶτὸνJosephἸωσὴφandκαὶtheτὸbabyβρέφοςlyingκείμενονinἐνtheτῇmangerφάτνῃ·

17Having seenἰδόντεςnowδὲthey proclaimed abroadἐγνώρισανconcerningπερὶtheτοῦsayingῥήματοςτοῦhaving been toldλαληθέντοςthemαὐτοῖςconcerningπερὶtheτοῦChildπαιδίουthisτούτου.

18Andκαὶallπάντεςthoseοἱhaving heardἀκούσαντεςmarveledἐθαύμασανconcerningπερὶthe thingsτῶνhaving been spokenλαληθέντωνbyὑπὸtheτῶνshepherdsποιμένωνtoπρὸςthemαὐτούς,

19ἡButδὲMaryΜαρίαallπάνταwas treasuring upσυνετήρειτὰmattersῥήματαtheseταῦταpondering [them]συμβάλλουσαinἐνtheτῇheartκαρδίᾳof herαὐτῆς.

20AndκαὶreturnedὑπέστρεψανtheοἱshepherdsποιμένεςglorifyingδοξάζοντεςandκαὶpraisingαἰνοῦντεςτὸνGodθεὸνforἐπὶall thingsπᾶσινwhichοἷςthey had heardἤκουσανandκαὶseenεἶδονasκαθὼςit was saidἐλαλήθηtoπρὸςthemαὐτούς.

21AndΚαὶwhenὅτεwere fulfilledἐπλήσθησανdaysἡμέραιeightὀκτὼτοῦto circumciseπεριτεμεῖνHimαὐτόν,thenκαὶwas calledἐκλήθηtheτὸnameὄνομαof HimαὐτοῦJesusἸησοῦς,whichτὸHe had been calledκληθὲνbyὑπὸtheτοῦangelἀγγέλουbeforeπρὸτοῦwas conceivedσυλλημφθῆναιHeαὐτὸνinἐνtheτῇwombκοιλίᾳ.

22AndΚαὶwhenὅτεwere fulfilledἐπλήσθησανtheαἱdaysἡμέραιof theτοῦpurificationκαθαρισμοῦof themαὐτῶνaccording toκατὰtheτὸνlawνόμονof MosesΜωϋσέως,they broughtἀνήγαγονHimαὐτὸνtoεἰςJerusalemἹεροσόλυμαto presentπαραστῆσαιto theτῷLordκυρίῳ,

23asκαθὼςit has been writtenγέγραπταιin [the]ἐνlawνόμῳof [the] LordκυρίουὅτιEveryΠᾶνmaleἄρσενopeningδιανοῖγονa wombμήτρανholyἅγιονto theτῷLordκυρίῳshall be calledκληθήσεται,

24andκαὶτοῦto offerδοῦναιa sacrificeθυσίανaccording toκατὰthatτὸhaving been saidεἰρημένονinἐνtheτῷlawνόμῳof [the] Lordκυρίου,A pairζεῦγοςof turtle dovesτρυγόνωνorἢtwoδύοyoungνοσσοὺςpigeonsπεριστερῶν.

25AndΚαὶbeholdἰδοὺa manἄνθρωποςthere wasἦνinἐνJerusalemἸερουσαλὴμwhoseᾧname [was]ὄνομαSimeonΣυμεών,andκαὶtheὁmanἄνθρωποςthisοὗτος[was] righteousδίκαιοςandκαὶdevoutεὐλαβής,waiting forπροσδεχόμενος[the] consolationπαράκλησιντοῦof IsraelἸσραήλ,andκαὶ[the] SpiritπνεῦμαwasἦνHolyἅγιονuponἐπ’himαὐτόν·

26Andκαὶit wasἦνto himαὐτῷdivinely revealedκεχρηματισμένονbyὑπὸtheτοῦSpiritπνεύματοςτοῦHolyἁγίουnotμὴto seeἰδεῖνdeathθάνατονbeforeπρὶνthatἢἂνhe should seeἴδῃtheτὸνChristχριστὸνof [the] Lordκυρίου.

27Andκαὶhe cameἦλθενinἐνtheτῷSpiritπνεύματιintoεἰςtheτὸtempleἱερόν·andκαὶinἐνthe [time when]τῷwere bringing inεἰσαγαγεῖνtheτοὺςparentsγονεῖςtheτὸchildπαιδίονJesusἸησοῦνthe [thing]τοῦwere doingποιῆσαιtheyαὐτοὺςaccording toκατὰthatτὸhaving become customaryεἰθισμένονby theτοῦlawνόμουforπερὶHimαὐτοῦ

28thenκαὶheαὐτὸςreceivedἐδέξατοHimαὐτὸintoεἰςtheτὰςarmsἀγκάλαςandκαὶblessedεὐλόγησεντὸνGodθεὸνandκαὶsaidεἶπεν·

29NowΝῦνYou dismissἀπολύειςtheτὸνservantδοῦλόνof Youσου,Lordδέσποτα,according toκατὰtheτὸwordῥῆμάof Youσουinἐνpeaceεἰρήνῃ·

30forὅτιhave seenεἶδονtheοἱeyesὀφθαλμοίof meμουtheτὸsalvationσωτήριόνof Youσου

31whichὃYou have preparedἡτοίμασαςbeforeκατὰ[the] faceπρόσωπονof allπάντωνtheτῶνpeoplesλαῶν,

32a lightφῶςforεἰςrevelationἀποκάλυψινof [the] Gentilesἐθνῶνandκαὶgloryδόξανof [the] peopleλαοῦof YouσουIsraelἸσραήλ.

33Andκαὶwereἦνtheὁfatherπατὴρof Himαὐτοῦandκαὶtheἡmotherμήτηρmarvelingθαυμάζοντεςatἐπὶthe thingsτοῖςhaving been spokenλαλουμένοιςconcerningπερὶHimαὐτοῦ.

34AndκαὶblessedεὐλόγησενthemαὐτοὺςSimeonΣυμεὼνandκαὶsaidεἶπενtoπρὸςMaryΜαριὰμtheτὴνmotherμητέραof Himαὐτοῦ·BeholdἸδοὺthis [Child]οὗτοςis appointedκεῖταιforεἰς[the] fallingπτῶσινandκαὶrising upἀνάστασινof manyπολλῶνinἐντῷIsraelἸσραὴλandκαὶforεἰςa signσημεῖονspoken againstἀντιλεγόμενον,

35andκαὶof youσοῦalsoδὲof herαὐτῆςtheτὴνsoulψυχὴνwill go throughδιελεύσεταιa swordῥομφαία,so thatὅπωςἂνmay be revealedἀποκαλυφθῶσινofἐκmanyπολλῶνheartsκαρδιῶν[the] thoughtsδιαλογισμοί.

36AndΚαὶthere wasἦνAnnaἍνναa prophetessπροφῆτις,daughterθυγάτηρof PhanuelΦανουήλ,ofἐκ[the] tribeφυλῆςof AsherἈσήρsheαὕτηbeing advancedπροβεβηκυῖαinἐνyearsἡμέραιςgreatπολλαῖς,having livedζήσασαwithμετὰa husbandἀνδρὸςyearsἔτηsevenἑπτὰfromἀπὸtheτῆςmarriageπαρθενίαςof herselfαὐτῆς,

37andκαὶsheαὐτὴ[was] a widowχήραof aboutἕωςyearsἐτῶνeighty [and]ὀγδοήκονταfourτεσσάρων,whoἣnotοὐκdepartedἀφίστατοtheτοῦtempleἱεροῦwith fastingsνηστείαιςandκαὶprayersδεήσεσινservingλατρεύουσαnightνύκταandκαὶdayἡμέραν.

38Andκαὶsheαὐτῇat thatτῇhourὥρᾳhaving come upἐπιστᾶσαwas giving praiseἀνθωμολογεῖτοτῷto Godθεῷandκαὶwas speakingἐλάλειconcerningπερὶHimαὐτοῦto allπᾶσινthoseτοῖςwaiting forπροσδεχομένοις[the] redemptionλύτρωσινof JerusalemἸερουσαλήμ.

39AndΚαὶwhenὡςthey had performedἐτέλεσανeverythingπάντατὰaccording toκατὰtheτὸνlawνόμονof [the] Lordκυρίου,they returnedἐπέστρεψανtoεἰςτὴνGalileeΓαλιλαίανto theεἰςtownπόλινof themἑαυτῶνNazarethΝαζαρέθ.

40ΤὸAndδὲthe Childπαιδίονcontinued to growηὔξανενandκαὶbecome strongἐκραταιοῦτοbeing filledπληρούμενονwith wisdomσοφίᾳ,andκαὶ[the] graceχάριςof Godθεοῦwasἦνuponἐπ’Himαὐτό.

41AndΚαὶwere goingἐπορεύοντοtheοἱparentsγονεῖςof Himαὐτοῦeveryκατ’yearἔτοςtoεἰςJerusalemἸερουσαλὴμat theτῇfeastἑορτῇof theτοῦPassoverπάσχα.

42AndκαὶwhenὅτεHe wasἐγένετοyears [old]ἐτῶνtwelveδώδεκα,having gone upἀναβαινόντωνtheyαὐτῶνaccording toκατὰtheτὸcustomἔθοςof theτῆςFeastἑορτῆς

43andκαὶhaving completedτελειωσάντωνtheτὰςdaysἡμέρας,inἐνtheτῷreturningὑποστρέφεινof themαὐτοὺςremained behindὑπέμεινενJesusἸησοῦςtheὁboyπαῖςinἐνJerusalemἸερουσαλήμ,Butκαὶnotοὐκknewἔγνωσανtheοἱparentsγονεῖςof Himαὐτοῦ.

44Having supposedνομίσαντεςnowδὲHimαὐτὸνto beεἶναιinἐνtheirτῇcompanyσυνοδίᾳthey wentἦλθονa day’sἡμέραςjourneyὁδὸνandκαὶbegan seekingἀνεζήτουνHimαὐτὸνamongἐνtheτοῖςrelativesσυγγενεῦσινandκαὶtheτοῖςacquaintancesγνωστοῖς,

45andκαὶnotμὴhaving found [Him]εὑρόντεςthey returnedὑπέστρεψανtoεἰςJerusalemἸερουσαλὴμseekingἀναζητοῦντεςHimαὐτόν.

46Andκαὶit came to passἐγένετοafterμετὰdaysἡμέραςthreeτρεῖςthey foundεὗρονHimαὐτὸνinἐνtheτῷtempleἱερῷsittingκαθεζόμενονinἐν[the] midstμέσῳof theτῶνteachersδιδασκάλωνbothκαὶhearingἀκούονταthemαὐτῶνandκαὶquestioningἐπερωτῶνταthemαὐτούς·

47Were amazedἐξίσταντοthenδὲallπάντεςthoseοἱhearingἀκούοντεςHimαὐτοῦatἐπὶtheτῇunderstandingσυνέσειandκαὶtheταῖςanswersἀποκρίσεσινof Himαὐτοῦ.

48Andκαὶhaving seenἰδόντεςHimαὐτὸνthey were astonishedἐξεπλάγησαν,andκαὶsaidεἶπενtoπρὸςHimαὐτὸνtheἡmotherμήτηρof Himαὐτοῦ·ChildΤέκνον,whyτίhave You doneἐποίησαςto usἡμῖνthusοὕτως;Beholdἰδοὺtheὁfatherπατήρof YouσουandκαὶIἐγὼdistressingὀδυνώμενοιsearching forἐζητοῦμένYouσε.

49AndκαὶHe saidεἶπενtoπρὸςthemαὐτούς·Why [is it]Τίthatὅτιyou were seekingἐζητεῖτέMeμε;Notοὐκknew youᾔδειτεthatὅτιinἐνthe [house]τοῖςof theτοῦFatherπατρόςof Meμουit behoovesδεῖto beεἶναίMeμε;

50AndκαὶtheyαὐτοὶnotοὐunderstoodσυνῆκανtheτὸwordῥῆμαthatὃHe spokeἐλάλησενto themαὐτοῖς.

51AndκαὶHe went downκατέβηwithμετ’themαὐτῶνandκαὶcameἦλθενtoεἰςNazarethΝαζαρέθ,andκαὶHe wasἦνsubjectὑποτασσόμενοςto themαὐτοῖς.Andκαὶtheἡmotherμήτηρof Himαὐτοῦwas treasuring upδιετήρειallπάνταtheτὰmattersῥήματαtheseταῦταinἐνtheτῇheartκαρδίᾳof herαὐτῆς.

52AndΚαὶJesusἸησοῦςcontinued to advanceπροέκοπτενwisdomσοφίᾳandκαὶstatureἡλικίᾳandκαὶin favorχάριτιwithπαρὰGodθεῷandκαὶmenἀνθρώποις.
