1AndΚαὶHe went outἐξῆλθενfrom thereἐκεῖθεν,andκαὶcameἔρχεταιintoεἰςtheτὴνhometownπατρίδαof Himαὐτοῦ,andκαὶfollowἀκολουθοῦσινHimαὐτῷtheοἱdisciplesμαθηταὶof Himαὐτοῦ.
2Andκαὶhaving comeγενομένου[the] SabbathσαββάτουHe beganἤρξατοto teachδιδάσκεινinἐνtheτῇsynagogueσυναγωγῇ·andκαὶοἱmanyπολλοὶhearingἀκούοντεςwere astonishedἐξεπλήσσοντοsayingλέγοντες·From whereΠόθενto this [man]τούτῳthese thingsταῦτα,andκαὶwhat [is]τίςtheἡwisdomσοφίαἡhaving been givenδοθεῖσαto Himτούτῳ,evenκαὶtheαἱmiraclesδυνάμειςsuchτοιαῦταιbyδιὰtheτῶνhandsχειρῶνof Himαὐτοῦare doneγινόμεναι;
3Notοὐχthisοὗτόςisἐστινtheὁcarpenterτέκτων,theὁsonυἱὸςτῆςof MaryΜαρίαςandκαὶbrotherἀδελφὸςof JamesἸακώβουandκαὶJosephἸωσῆτοςandκαὶJudasἸούδαandκαὶSimonΣίμωνος;Andκαὶnotοὐκareεἰσὶνtheαἱsistersἀδελφαὶof Himαὐτοῦhereὧδεwithπρὸςusἡμᾶς;Andκαὶthey took offenseἐσκανδαλίζοντοatἐνHimαὐτῷ.
4Andκαὶsaidἔλεγενto themαὐτοῖςὁJesusἸησοῦςὅτιNotΟὐκisἔστινa prophetπροφήτηςwithout honorἄτιμοςifεἰnotμὴinἐνtheτῇhometownπατρίδιof himαὐτοῦandκαὶamongἐντοῖςrelativesσυγγενεῦσινof himαὐτοῦandκαὶinἐνtheτῇhouseholdοἰκίᾳof himαὐτοῦ.
5AndκαὶnotοὐκHe was ableἐδύνατοthereἐκεῖto doποιῆσαιnot anyοὐδεμίανwork of powerδύναμιν,ifεἰnotμὴon a fewὀλίγοιςsickἀρρώστοιςhaving laidἐπιθεὶςtheτὰςhandsχεῖραςHe healedἐθεράπευσεν·
6Andκαὶamazedἐθαύμαζενbecause ofδιὰtheτὴνunbeliefἀπιστίανof themαὐτῶν.AndΚαὶHe was goingπεριῆγενtheτὰςvillagesκώμαςaroundκύκλῳteachingδιδάσκων.
7AndκαὶHe calls nearπροσκαλεῖταιtheτοὺςTwelveδώδεκα,andκαὶHe beganἤρξατοthemαὐτοὺςto send forthἀποστέλλεινtwoδύο[by] twoδύο,andκαὶHe gaveἐδίδουto themαὐτοῖςauthorityἐξουσίανover theτῶνspiritsπνευμάτωντῶνuncleanἀκαθάρτων,
8AndκαὶHe instructedπαρήγγειλενthemαὐτοῖςthatἵναnothingμηδὲνthey should takeαἴρωσινfor [the]εἰςjourneyὁδὸνifεἰnotμὴa staffῥάβδονonlyμόνον,noμὴbreadἄρτον,norμὴbagπήραν,norμὴinεἰςtheτὴνbeltζώνηνmoneyχαλκόν,
9butἀλλὰwearingὑποδεδεμένουςsandalsσανδάλια,andκαὶnotμὴput onἐνδύσησθεtwoδύοtunicsχιτῶνας.
10AndκαὶHe would sayἔλεγενto themαὐτοῖς·WhereverὍπουifἐὰνyou enterεἰσέλθητεintoεἰςa houseοἰκίαν,thereἐκεῖremainμένετεuntilἕωςἂνyou go outἐξέλθητεfrom thereἐκεῖθεν.
11Andκαὶwhateverὃςἂνplaceτόποςnotμὴwill receiveδέξηταιyouὑμᾶςnorμηδὲhearἀκούσωσινyouὑμῶν,departingἐκπορευόμενοιfrom thereἐκεῖθενshake offἐκτινάξατεtheτὸνdustχοῦνwhich [is]τὸνunderὑποκάτωtheτῶνfeetποδῶνof youὑμῶνforεἰςa testimonyμαρτύριονagainst themαὐτοῖς.
12AndΚαὶhaving gone outἐξελθόντεςthey preachedἐκήρυξανthatἵναthey should repentμετανοῶσιν,
13Andκαὶdemonsδαιμόνιαmanyπολλὰthey were casting outἐξέβαλλον,andκαὶwere anointingἤλειφονwith oilἐλαίῳmanyπολλοὺςsickἀρρώστουςandκαὶhealing [them]ἐθεράπευον.
14AndΚαὶheardἤκουσενὁKingβασιλεὺςHerodἩρῴδης,well knownφανερὸνforγὰρbecameἐγένετοtheτὸnameὄνομαof Himαὐτοῦ,Andκαὶthey were sayingἔλεγονὅτιJohnἸωάννηςthe [one]ὁbaptizingβαπτίζωνis risenἐγήγερταιout fromἐκ[the] deadνεκρῶν,andκαὶbecause ofδιὰthisτοῦτοoperateἐνεργοῦσινtheαἱmiraculous powersδυνάμειςinἐνhimαὐτῷ·
15Othersἄλλοιhoweverδὲwere sayingἔλεγονὅτιElijahἨλίαςHe isἐστίν·Othersἄλλοιnowδὲwere sayingἔλεγονὅτιA prophetπροφήτηςlikeὡςoneεἷςof theτῶνprophetsπροφητῶν.
16Having heardἀκούσαςnowδὲὁHerodἩρῴδηςwas sayingἔλεγεν·WhomὋνIἐγὼbeheadedἀπεκεφάλισαJohnἸωάννην,heοὗτοςis risenἠγέρθη.
17HimselfΑὐτὸςforγὰρὁHerodἩρῴδηςhaving sentἀποστείλαςseizedἐκράτησεντὸνJohnἸωάννηνandκαὶboundἔδησενhimαὐτὸνinἐνprisonφυλακῇon account ofδιὰHerodiasἩρῳδιάδαtheτὴνwifeγυναῖκαof PhilipΦιλίππουtheτοῦbrotherἀδελφοῦof himαὐτοῦ,becauseὅτιherαὐτὴνhe had marriedἐγάμησεν·
18Had been sayingἔλεγενforγὰρὁJohnἸωάννηςτῷto HerodἩρῴδῃὅτιNotΟὐκit is lawfulἔξεστίνfor youσοιto haveἔχεινtheτὴνwifeγυναῖκαof theτοῦbrotherἀδελφοῦof youσου.
19ἡAndδὲHerodiasἩρῳδιὰςheld itἐνεῖχενagainst himαὐτῷandκαὶwishedἤθελενhimαὐτὸνto killἀποκτεῖναι,andκαὶnotοὐκwas ableἠδύνατο·
20ὁforγὰρHerodἩρῴδηςwas afraid ofἐφοβεῖτοτὸνJohnἸωάννην,knowingεἰδὼςhimαὐτὸν[to be] a manἄνδραrighteousδίκαιονandκαὶholyἅγιον,andκαὶhe kept safeσυνετήρειhimαὐτόν,Andκαὶhaving heardἀκούσαςhimαὐτοῦgreatlyπολλὰhe was perplexedἠπόρει,andκαὶgladlyἡδέωςhimαὐτοῦheardἤκουεν.
21AndΚαὶhaving comeγενομένης[a] dayἡμέραςopportuneεὐκαίρουwhenὅτεHerodἩρῴδηςon theτοῖςbirthdayγενεσίοιςof himαὐτοῦa banquetδεῖπνονmadeἐποίησενto theτοῖςgreat menμεγιστᾶσινof himαὐτοῦandκαὶto theτοῖςchief captainsχιλιάρχοιςandκαὶto theτοῖςleading [men]πρώτοιςτῆςof GalileeΓαλιλαίας,
22andκαὶhaving come inεἰσελθούσηςtheτῆςdaughterθυγατρὸςof herselfαὐτῆςτῆςHerodiasἩρῳδιάδοςandκαὶhaving dancedὀρχησαμένηςandκαὶhaving pleasedἀρεσάσηςτῷHerodἩρῴδῃandκαὶthoseτοῖςreclining with [him]συνανακειμένοις,saidεἶπενὁthe kingβασιλεὺςto theτῷgirlκορασίῳ·AskΑἴτησόνmeμεwhateverὃifἐὰνyou wishθέλῃς,andκαὶI will giveδώσωto youσοι·
23Andκαὶhe sworeὤμοσενto herαὐτῇ·* whateverὍ*τιifἐάνmeμεyou might askαἰτήσῃςI will giveδώσωyouσοιup toἕωςhalfἡμίσουςof theτῆςkingdomβασιλείαςof meμου.
24Andκαὶhaving gone outἐξελθοῦσαshe saidεἶπενto theτῇmotherμητρὶof herαὐτῆς·WhatΤίshall I askαἰτήσωμαι;ἡAndδὲshe saidεἶπεν·TheΤὴνheadκεφαλὴνof JohnἸωάννουthe [one]τοῦbaptizingβαπτίζοντος.
25Andκαὶhaving enteredεἰσελθοῦσαimmediatelyεὐθὺςwithμετὰhasteσπουδῆςtoπρὸςtheτὸνkingβασιλέαshe askedᾐτήσατοsayingλέγουσα·I desireΘέλωthatἵναat onceἐξαυτῆςyou giveδῷςto meμοιuponἐπὶa platterπίνακιtheτὴνheadκεφαλὴνof JohnἸωάννουtheτοῦBaptistβαπτιστοῦ.
26Andκαὶencompassingly sorrowfulπερίλυποςhaving been madeγενόμενοςtheὁkingβασιλεὺςon account ofδιὰtheτοὺςoathsὅρκουςandκαὶthoseτοὺςreclining with [him]ἀνακειμένουςnotοὐκwas he willingἠθέλησενto refuseἀθετῆσαιherαὐτήν·
27Andκαὶimmediatelyεὐθὺςhaving sentἀποστείλαςtheὁkingβασιλεὺςan executionerσπεκουλάτοραhe commandedἐπέταξενto be broughtἐνέγκαιtheτὴνheadκεφαλὴνof himαὐτοῦ.andκαὶwentἀπελθὼνbeheadedἀπεκεφάλισενhimαὐτὸνinἐνtheτῇprisonφυλακῇ
28andκαὶbroughtἤνεγκενtheτὴνheadκεφαλὴνof himαὐτοῦuponἐπὶa platterπίνακιandκαὶgaveἔδωκενitαὐτὴνto theτῷgirlκορασίῳ,andκαὶtheτὸgirlκοράσιονgaveἔδωκενitαὐτὴνto theτῇmotherμητρὶof herαὐτῆς.
29Andκαὶhaving heard [it]ἀκούσαντεςtheοἱdisciplesμαθηταὶof himαὐτοῦcameἦλθονandκαὶtook upἦρανtheτὸbodyπτῶμαof himαὐτοῦandκαὶlaidἔθηκανitαὐτὸinἐν[a] tombμνημείῳ.
30AndΚαὶare gathered togetherσυνάγονταιtheοἱapostlesἀπόστολοιtoπρὸςτὸνJesusἸησοῦν,andκαὶthey relatedἀπήγγειλανto himαὐτῷall thingsπάνταwhatὅσαthey had doneἐποίησανandκαὶwhatὅσαthey had taughtἐδίδαξαν.
31AndκαὶHe saidλέγειto themαὐτοῖς·ComeΔεῦτεyouὑμεῖςyourselvesαὐτοὶapartκατ’ownἰδίανtoεἰς[a] solitaryἔρημονplaceτόπονandκαὶrestἀναπαύσασθεa littleὀλίγον.Wereἦσανforγὰρthoseοἱcomingἐρχόμενοιandκαὶthoseοἱgoingὑπάγοντεςmanyπολλοί,andκαὶnot evenοὐδὲto eatφαγεῖνhad they opportunityεὐκαίρουν.
32Andκαὶthey went awayἀπῆλθονbyἐνtheτῷboatπλοίῳintoεἰς[a] solitaryἔρημονplaceτόπονbyκατ’themselvesἰδίαν.
33Andκαὶthey sawεἶδονthemαὐτοὺςgoingὑπάγονταςandκαὶrecognizedἐπέγνωσανmanyπολλοί,andκαὶon footπεζῇfromἀπὸallπασῶνtheτῶνcitiesπόλεωνran togetherσυνέδραμονthereἐκεῖandκαὶwent beforeπροῆλθονthemαὐτούς.
34Andκαὶhaving gone outἐξελθὼνHe sawεἶδενa greatπολὺνcrowdὄχλον,andκαὶwas moved with compassionἐσπλαγχνίσθηtowardἐπ’themαὐτοὺςbecauseὅτιthey wereἦσανlikeὡςsheepπρόβαταnotμὴhavingἔχονταa shepherdποιμένα,AndκαὶHe beganἤρξατοto teachδιδάσκεινthemαὐτοὺςmany thingsπολλά.
35AndΚαὶalreadyἤδηthe hourὥραςlateπολλῆςbeingγενομένηςhaving comeπροσελθόντεςto Himαὐτῷtheοἱdisciplesμαθηταὶof Himαὐτοῦwere sayingἔλεγονὅτιDesolateἜρημόςisἐστινtheὁplaceτόπος,andκαὶalready [it is]ἤδηan hourὥραlateπολλή·
36Dismissἀπόλυσονthemαὐτούς,thatἵναhaving goneἀπελθόντεςtoεἰςtheτοὺςsurroundingκύκλῳregionἀγροὺςandκαὶvillagesκώμαςthey might buyἀγοράσωσινfor themselvesἑαυτοῖςsomethingτίto eatφάγωσιν.
37ὁButδὲansweringἀποκριθεὶςHe saidεἶπενto themαὐτοῖς·GiveΔότεto themαὐτοῖςyouὑμεῖς[something] to eatφαγεῖν.Andκαὶthey sayλέγουσινto Himαὐτῷ·Having goneἈπελθόντεςshall we buyἀγοράσωμενdenariiδηναρίωνtwo hundredδιακοσίωνof breadἄρτουςandκαὶgiveδώσομενthemαὐτοῖςto eatφαγεῖν;
38ὁAndδὲHe saysλέγειto themαὐτοῖς·How manyΠόσουςhave youἔχετεloavesἄρτους;Goὑπάγετεseeἴδετε.Andκαὶhaving knownγνόντεςthey sayλέγουσιν·FiveΠέντε,andκαὶtwoδύοfishἰχθύας.
39AndκαὶHe commandedἐπέταξενthemαὐτοῖςsit downἀνακλῖναιallπάνταςgroupsσυμπόσια[by] groupsσυμπόσιαonἐπὶtheτῷgreenχλωρῷgrassχόρτῳ.
40Andκαὶthey sat downἀνέπεσανgroupsπρασιαὶ[by] groupsπρασιαὶbyκατὰhundredsἑκατὸνandκαὶbyκατὰfiftiesπεντήκοντα.
41Andκαὶhaving takenλαβὼνtheτοὺςfiveπέντεloavesἄρτουςandκαὶtheτοὺςtwoδύοfishἰχθύαςhaving looked upἀναβλέψαςtoεἰςtheτὸνheavenοὐρανὸνHe blessedεὐλόγησενandκαὶbrokeκατέκλασενtheτοὺςloavesἄρτουςandκαὶHe kept giving [them]ἐδίδουto theτοῖςdisciplesμαθηταῖςhisαὐτοῦthatἵναthey might set beforeπαρατιθῶσινthemαὐτοῖς,AndκαὶtheτοὺςtwoδύοfishἰχθύαςHe dividedἐμέρισενamong allπᾶσιν.
42Andκαὶateἔφαγονallπάντεςandκαὶwere satisfiedἐχορτάσθησαν·
43Andκαὶthey took upἦρανof fragmentsκλάσματαtwelveδώδεκαhand-basketsκοφίνωνfullπληρώματαandκαὶofἀπὸtheτῶνfishἰχθύων.
44Andκαὶwereἦσανthoseοἱhaving eaten ofφαγόντεςtheτοὺςloavesἄρτουςfive thousandπεντακισχίλιοιmenἄνδρες.
45AndΚαὶimmediatelyεὐθὺςHe compelledἠνάγκασενtheτοὺςdisciplesμαθητὰςof Himαὐτοῦto enterἐμβῆναιintoεἰςtheτὸboatπλοῖονandκαὶto go beforeπροάγεινtoεἰςtheτὸother sideπέρανtoπρὸςBethsaidaΒηθσαϊδάν,untilἕωςHeαὐτὸςshould dismissἀπολύειtheτὸνcrowdὄχλον.
46Andκαὶhaving taken leave ofἀποταξάμενοςthemαὐτοῖςHe departedἀπῆλθενintoεἰςtheτὸmountainὄροςto prayπροσεύξασθαι.
47AndΚαὶeveningὀψίαςhaving comeγενομένηςwasἦνtheτὸboatπλοῖονinἐνthe midstμέσῳof theτῆςseaθαλάσσης,andκαὶHeαὐτὸςaloneμόνοςuponἐπὶtheτῆςlandγῆς.
48AndκαὶHe having seenἰδὼνthemαὐτοὺςstrainingβασανιζομένουςinἐνtheτῷrowingἐλαύνειν,wasἦνforγὰρtheὁwindἄνεμοςcontraryἐναντίοςto themαὐτοῖς,Aboutπερὶ[the] fourthτετάρτηνwatchφυλακὴνof theτῆςnightνυκτὸςHe comesἔρχεταιtoπρὸςthemαὐτοὺςwalkingπεριπατῶνonἐπὶtheτῆςseaθαλάσσης·andκαὶHe was wishingἤθελενto pass byπαρελθεῖνthemαὐτούς.
49οἱAndδὲhaving seenἰδόντεςHimαὐτὸνonἐπὶtheτῆςseaθαλάσσηςwalkingπεριπατοῦνταthey thoughtἔδοξανthatὅτιa ghostφάντασμά[it] isἐστινandκαὶcried outἀνέκραξαν,
50AllπάντεςforγὰρHimαὐτὸνsawεἶδονandκαὶwere troubledἐταράχθησαν.ὁAndδὲimmediatelyεὐθὺςHe spokeἐλάλησενwithμετ’themαὐτῶν,andκαὶsaysλέγειto themαὐτοῖς·Take courageΘαρσεῖτε,Iἐγώam [He]εἰμι,notμὴfearφοβεῖσθε.
51AndκαὶHe went upἀνέβηtoπρὸςthemαὐτοὺςintoεἰςtheτὸboatπλοῖον,andκαὶceasedἐκόπασενtheὁwindἄνεμος.Andκαὶexceedinglyλίανinἐκabundanceπερισσοῦinἐνthemselvesἑαυτοῖςthey were amazedἐξίσταντο,
52notοὐforγὰρthey understoodσυνῆκανbyἐπὶtheτοῖςloavesἄρτοις,butἀλλ’had beenἦνof themαὐτῶνtheἡheartκαρδίαhardenedπεπωρωμένη.
53AndΚαὶhaving passed overδιαπεράσαντεςtoἐπὶtheτὴνlandγῆνthey cameἦλθονtoεἰςGennesaretΓεννησαρὲτandκαὶdrew to shoreπροσωρμίσθησαν.
54Andκαὶon having comeἐξελθόντωνof themαὐτῶνout ofἐκtheτοῦboatπλοίουimmediatelyεὐθὺςhaving recognizedἐπιγνόντεςHimαὐτὸν
55they ran aroundπεριέδραμονallὅληνtheτὴνcountryχώρανthatἐκείνηνandκαὶthey beganἤρξαντοonἐπὶtheτοῖςmatsκραβάττοιςthoseτοὺςsickκακῶςbeingἔχονταςto carry aboutπεριφέρεινto whereverὅπουthey were hearingἤκουονthatὅτιHe isἐστίν.
56AndκαὶwhereverὅπουἂνHe enteredεἰσεπορεύετοintoεἰςvillagesκώμαςorἢintoεἰςcitiesπόλειςorἢintoεἰςfieldsἀγροὺςinἐνtheταῖςmarketplacesἀγοραῖςthey were layingἐτίθεσανtheτοὺςailingἀσθενοῦντας,andκαὶwere beggingπαρεκάλουνHimαὐτὸνthatἵναonlyκἂνtheτοῦfringeκρασπέδουtheτοῦclothingἱματίουof Himαὐτοῦthey might touchἅψωνται·andκαὶas many asὅσοιἂνtouchedἥψαντοHimαὐτοῦwere being healedἐσῴζοντο.
